Obituary: Calvin C. Clingan, 86, of Beverly Hills, FL, formerly of Glen Cove, NY, passed away peacefully on 23, 2011, surrounded by his family. Cal was born on the Planting Fields estate of W.R. Coe in 1925 to the late Thomas George Clingan and Mary Armstrong Clingan, and was predeceased by his five sisters Dorothy, Anne, Mae, Gwen and Mildred. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps immediately after graduation from high school, serving in the European campaign of World War II, for which he received the Bronze Star. On returning home, Cal married his Cadet Nurse sweetheart, Alice Palmer, on 1, 1948, beginning their more than 63 years together. He is also survived by his son, Thomas George Clingan II (and his wife Carol); daughters Margaret Francis and Kathleen Harrington (and her husband John); along with grandchildren Jerry Francis, Victoria Clingan, Carrie Clingan, Kelly Francis, Katharine Clingan, Heather Harrington and Alexandra Clingan; and Cals best buddy, great-grandson Hunter Calvin Francis. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Sam Linden and twelve nieces and nephews. Cal became a master painter, and operated his own painting company before overseeing painting operations for State University at Old Westbury, from which he retired in 1987. Cal and Alice built their retirement home in Florida the following year and enjoyed 24 years of retirement together. were among the founders of Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Lecanto. An avid fisherman up north, Cal came to appreciate travel, bowling and golf in addition to sharing his fathers lifelong love of flowers and plants. Relatives and friends are invited to call at Fero , 5955 North Lecanto Highway (Route 491), Beverly Hills, on 27, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Memorial Service led by the Rt. Rev. James M. Adams will be held on , 28, at Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church, 2540 West Norvell Bryant Highway (Route 486), Lecanto, at 10 a.m., with interment to follow at Fero Memorial Gardens, 5891 North Lecanto Highway (Route 491), Beverly Hills. The family would like to thank the staff of Nature Coast Lodge in Lecanto and HPH Hospice of Inverness.
