Obituary: Edward Herman Cepull, Jr. completed his earth journey on , 7, 2016, in his home amidst his family after fighting Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma for twenty years.

Ed grew up in Lower Burrell, PA, and graduated from Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon) with a degree in electrical engineering. While working for Delco Products Division of General Motors in Ohio, he was drafted into the army, where he performed maintenance on defense sites throughout Washington, DC. During this time he met his future wife, Sue, and moved to Orlando where he worked for Martin Marietta on the Bullpup project. Later, he became an Advisory Systems Engineer with IBM, where he earned many company awards for his valued service and expertise during his 24 years there.

His belief in lifelong learning led Ed to earn an M.B.A. at Rollins and to take courses in welding, locksmithing, energy efficient construction, scuba diving, TV building, and Bible study, just to name a few. He was a longtime member of the Learning Institute For Elders (LIFE) at the University of Central Florida, at which speakers share their expertise in a variety of fields (similar to the popular TED Talks). Ed found the Nu School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Orlando (FUMCO) to be an arena for his search for religious truths, practices, and spiritual growth, in a safe and open-minded atmosphere.

Ed’s retirement in 1987 gave him the opportunity to share his talents through his church, where he served in many roles, including usher, trustee, van driver, kitchen volunteer, and general handyman. Ed considered his contributions to disaster relief after hurricanes Andrew and Katrina, as well as construction mission trips to Guatemala and the Dominican Republic, to be life-changing experiences. Orlando’s Habitat for Humanity was another favorite project.

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) responds to national and international disaster and refugee situations by collecting and distributing relief supplies. Its main depot, Sager-Brown, located in Baldwin, Louisiana, operates mainly with volunteer labor. For many years, Ed led a local team of workers on a week-long trip to the warehouse to process supplies or do community home repairs. His example of innovative solutions and leadership inspired his co-workers.

Ed also helped with the construction of the Pavilion at the Methodist Family Campground in Leesburg, FL, and participated in numerous weekend camp programs.

For some twenty years Ed made macaroni salad and purchased food for the FUMCO monthly dinner, serving over 200 people at the Coalition for the less near downtown Orlando.

Ed's infectious smile, sense of humor, optimism, and can-do attitude enriched the lives of all who met him. He freely shared his expertise and interests, preferring to teach others, from youth to adults, by patiently guiding them how to "do it" themselves. Protecting our environment gave him a strong mindset to reduce consumption, and then reuse and recycle items to keep them from going to the landfill. Ed respected quality products and craftsmanship, and enjoyed creating improvements to existing products and objects to make them work more efficiently. He enjoyed riding his bicycle, working on his cars, and exploring the infinite varieties of foods in this world.

Ed is survived by his wife, Sandra Sue; his children Brenda Duffey (Chris), Karl (Kim), Eric, and Mark (Teresa); grandchildren Melissa and Ryan Duffey, Jarod Cepull and Allison Cepull; brother Fred Cepull; sisters Pat Maier and Karen Chomyak (Dave); and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will host a viewing , 11 from 4:30-7:30 at the Baldwin-Fairchild Ivanhoe Chapel, 301 NE Ivanhoe Drive, Orlando.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Orlando, 142 E Jackson St, Orlando, , 12 at 10:00 A.M., followed by a reception in the church gathering area.

In keeping with Ed’s casual demeanor, please feel free to dress comfortably when attending either the viewing or Celebration of Life. Please, no neckties.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Ed Cepull Memorial Fund at FUMCO or a charity of your choice.

under the direction of Baldwin Fairchild , Orlando, FL.
