Obituary: A native of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and a long-time resident of Mobile, Lieutenant Colonel Jack C. Castleberry passed away , 14, 2014. He retired from International Paper as a mechanical engineer and the fire protection coordinator for world wide operations. He was also a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army Reserves serving both in the Artillery and the Corps of Engineers. his retirement, he became the CEO of Fire Associates, a consulting and construction inspection firm, and FireEd, a fire protection education company. He was also an inspector for Global Risk Consultants and a contributing author for the industrial paper storage chapter of the NFPA Manual. He volunteered with the American Red Cross where he was active in designing and implementing disaster response plans for the Mobile metro area. During the mid 1970s he was the President of the Board of Education at Greystone Christian School. His lifetime hobby was model railroading and he scratch-built many HO-gauge steam and diesel locomotives, railroad cars and an O-Gauge model of the GM&O building located in downtown Mobile. He was an accomplished artist in oil paints and also designed and constructed the front stained-glass window at Grace Bible Church. In his later years, he joined Woodridge Baptist Church, where he was active in his School class and the church until his health began to decline. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joan Castleberry. He is survived by daughters, Mary Grabill (Tim) and Margaret Turner (Noel); grandchildren SSG Joseph Grabill (Michelle), Trish Grabill, and Adam Turner; great-grandson Jack Grabill; and other relatives. The family will receive friends at Radney on Dauphin Street, , 18 from 9:30 until 10:30. Graveside services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Woodridge Baptist Church or The American Red Cross. under the direction of Radney -Mobile, Mobile, AL. |
