Elena nació el 28 de Enero,1927 en Pinar del Rio, Cuba donde escribió sus primeras canciones y poemas a la edad de 15 años. Sus apassionados boleros han sido grabado por Olga Guillot, Roberto Ledesma, Lucho Gatica y Grisel Sanchez y muchos mas a traves de 70 aõs de carrera. Tambien colaboró con su hijo, el compositor y productor de musica Desmond Child, (Ricky Martin, Bon Jovi, Cher) escribiendo las letras de sus canciones en Español. Junto a nuestros padres formábamos una gran familia de tres hermanos y seis hermanas, compartiendo nuestra infancia en una hermosa casona construída por mis abuelos. Mi abuelo materno, Don Nicolás Martínez, que era el patriarca también de una familia numerosa, fué secretario del ayuntamiento local por muchos años. Dueño del periódico "La Voz de Occidente", su lema fué Dios y la Patria. Era un excelentísimo poeta. Mi madre, Doña Blanca Aurora Martinez Ojeda, estudió farmacia en la Universidad de La Habana. Mi padre, Profesor Carlos Rodríguez Casals, fué catedrático y director, en distintas oportunidades, de las Escuelas Profesionales de Comercio en Pinar del Río y de La Habana. Escribía mucho, éran de su autoría los cursos de enseñanza de la cátedras que él representaba. Sus obras se titularon entre otras: "Fabricación de Productos" y "Aranceles de Aduana" y fueron éstos libros de enseñanza, los que sembraron su sabiduría en todas las Escuelas de Comercio en Cuba. Fuí su mecanógrafa y llegué a adquirir gran velocidad; plasmando sus treinta y cuatro obras y otros artículos exclusivos para la revista argentina "La Chacra". Bajo estas dos grandes influencias nació en mí el deseo de escribir mis impresiones de la vida. Es así, que a la edad de seis años, recibí un premio por unos versos enviados al Diario de la Marina. Este patrocinaba un concurso para niños, mediante la colaboración del periodista Roberto Pérez de Acevedo. Mis poemas se centraron en la historia de un perro callejero llamado Palomo. El tiempo transcurrió y viviendo en La Habana, estudié en el Instituto Edison y luego ingresé en la Escuela Profesional de Comercio, en Pinar del Río. Felíz reencuentro familiar con mis abuelos y mi casa de la infancia, donde había dos pianos, el que usaba mi tía Elena María Martínez, pianista clásica excelente, y en el que jugábamos nosotros. Así aprendí a tocar de oído. Luego tomé clases de guitarra. Escribí episodios para una radionovela diaria y un programa cómico. Continué mis estudios hasta graduarme de contadora, y dedicarme a la enseñanza, ejerciendo de maestra de niños de 4to. grado, en la escuela que había fundado mi padre en La Habana y en la cátedra de Mecanografía y Caligrafía para adultos. Conocí para ése tiempo a mi futuro esposo, John Federick Barrett, norteamericano geólogo especializado en petróleo. Nos casamos rápidamente en menos de dos meses y por razones de trabajo de mi esposo, fuimos a vivir al Ecuador dónde compuse la canción "Hermosa Guayaquil". Luego vivimos en Venezuela y allí compuse "Noches de Maracaibo". Nuestro próximo viaje fué con destino a La Florida, Gainesville. Teníamos varias fincas y una lechria con 62 vacas. Una gran experiencia para mí. Allí nacieron mis dos únicos hijos; el primero, John Charles; unos años después llegó Frederick Joseph Barrett. Nos Mudamos a Miami definitivamente, aunque en ocasiones tuvimos que viajar a Cuba y a Puerto Rico, ausentándonos por 2 años. Puerto Rico se convirtió en mi fuente de inspiración: compuse la balada "Ponce", y el bolero "Diosa del Mar". A nuestro regreso a Miami, el cantante Roberto Ledesma grabó tres de mis canciones; las elegidas fueron: "Que seas felíz con tu dinero", "Triste" y "Muchísimo"; ésta última se realizó a través del sello Gema, y resultó un hit en América Latina. La Ciudad de Miami me entregó un pergamino en reconocimiento por la canción "Magic City", de las manos del entonces alcalde Robert King High. Hubieron muchos años de lucha, trabajos, estudios. Surgieron muchas más canciones y poemas. Mi hijo mayor, que desde los seis años viene dedicado al estudio de la música, se convirtió en un reconocido compositor y productor. El cambió su nombre a Desmond Child y luego fue honrado con la admission a el Salón de Fama de los Compositores en New York en 2008. Estoy muy orgullosa de ser su madre y abuela de sus dos hijos mellizos, Roman y Nyro. Mi hijo Frederick Joseph Barrett es un ejecutivo en una compania de contabilidad en la Ciudad de Mejico. Estoy muy orgullosa de el y de los nietos que me dio; Freddy, Marylou y Natalya. Dedico mi libro a toda mi familia. Obituary: Anthony Tony A. Casali, 64 of Beverly Hills, Florida died on , 31, 2012. He was born on , 26, 1947 to Charles and Carolina (Gelmi) Casali. Tony was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He went to Rhode Island . He enjoyed sports,country music,as well as many other genres of music, and was a creative cook in his kitchen. He was dedicated to his faith-life, and often helped people in crisises. He loved his job as a real estate investor/property manager, where many of the younger clients kiddingly called him "Dad", due to his fatherly advice for them, for they often had so many problems. He often sat in church praying for them and thier needs. He was known to often forgive debt when they were in financial straights due to job loss, or sickness. He spoke of many of them as "family", due to renting to them for many long years.He and his wife moved to this area in 1990 from Massachusetts. Tony was preceded in death by his mother, Carolina Gelmi Casali. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Casali of Beverly Hills, Florida; father, Charles Casali of Providence, Rhode Island; brothers, Robert Casali and wife Sandra of Johnston, Rhode Island and Gregory Casali of Providence, Rhode Island; sister, Elizabeth Perkowski and husband Paul of Swansea, Massachusetts and many nieces and nephews. Obituary: Patrick Nick Casale ( 18,1931- 25, 2011), resident of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, concluded his earthly journey, passing away peacefully at his home. He was one of eight children born to the late Giuseppa Perrotta and Michaelangelo Patrick Casale in Poughkeepsie New York. (Both immigrated to the US from Cervinara, Avellina, Italy). Pats journey was colorful and his life full. He served his country in the Navy & Air Force, rising to the rank of Sergeant during the Korean War. He was recipient of the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. He was an Eagle Scout and Scout Master in the Boy Scouts Of America. Upon returning stateside, he enjoyed a long, successful career with, and subsequently retired from IBM. Pat married Viola Lane(1960) in Pougkeepsie NY, and was a devoted husband and father. the loss of his beloved Viola, with much of his life still ahead of him, Pat persevered, traveled, spent time with his family and fell in love again, becoming the beloved husband of Billie Nadolny with whom he shared his life until his passing, in West Palm Beach Fl. Pat will forever be remembered for his amazing sense of humor, an infectious smile, and warmth. Pat will always be in the hearts of his loving siblings Frances, Marie, Jessie, Lucy, John, Fannie and Jennie, beloved sons, Guy Riedinger, Michael Casale and William Casale, treasured daughter in-law Denise, Wife Billie, Billies children, Tim Bussell, Janet Bussell-Eriksson and husband Dan Eriksson, and Janene Bussell, adoring grandchildren Kyle Riedinger, Fallon Scianna, Matthew Braswell, Bryan and Austin Casale, caring brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. Pat loved sharing a joke, gardening, bargain hunting, cooking, being with his family, and having fun with friends. Pat touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor throughout his life. The family will receive friends on , 31, 2011 at Howard-Price from 6:00pm with a funeral service starting at 7:30pm. He was an Eagle Scout and Scout Master in the Boy Scouts Of America. Upon returning stateside, he enjoyed a long, successful career with, and subsequently retired from IBM. Pat married Viola Lane(1960) in Pougkeepsie NY, and was a devoted husband and father. the loss of his beloved Viola, with much of his life still ahead of him, Pat persevered, traveled, spent time with his family and fell in love again, becoming the beloved husband of Billie Nadolny with whom he shared his life until his passing, in West Palm Beach Fl. Pat will forever be remembered for his amazing sense of humor, an infectious smile, and warmth. Pat will always be in the hearts of his loving siblings Frances, Marie, Jessie, Lucy, John, Fannie and Jennie, beloved sons, Guy Riedinger, Michael Casale and William Casale, treasured daughter in-law Denise, Wife Billie, Billies children, Tim Bussell, Janet Bussell-Eriksson and husband Dan Eriksson, and Janene Bussell, adoring grandchildren Kyle Riedinger, Fallon Scianna, Matthew Braswell, Bryan and Austin Casale, caring brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. Pat loved sharing a joke, gardening, bargain hunting, cooking, being with his family, and having fun with friends. Pat touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor throughout his life. The family will receive friends on , 31, 2011 at Howard-Price from 6:00pm with a funeral service starting at 7:30pm. Interment will take place at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, North Carolina 27612 on 16, 2011, at 3pm.
