Obituary: Linda Ferdon Carr, 67, of Queen Creek, Ariz., died May 30, 2014, at her home, from complications associated with breast cancer. Born May 2, 1947, in Middletown, N.Y., to Anthony and Laura Hoyt Ferdon. She graduated from Middletown High and received an Orange Women Societys scholarship to attend Plattsburgh State University where she was the 1969 Coming Queen. graduation she began her teaching career in Malone, N.Y., and continued to pursue master degrees in education and administration. She was the elementary principal at Northern Adirondack Central and Chazy Central Schools retiring after 28 years. She moved to Arizona in 1997 and continued as a principal for the Queen Creek Unified School District. She retired in 2008, but returned by popular demand, a few months later, to once again be principal at Frances Brandon-Pickett Elementary, the school she opened in 2005. In 2010 she moved to the District Office to become the Curriculum Director for Queen Creek Schools. She relinquished her position in 2012 to indulge in a quieter lifestyle, but never totally separated herself from the work she loved, as she often volunteered to visit classrooms and help with projects. Linda took much satisfaction in the challenge of being part of a rapidly growing community which opened new schools every few years. She was always very impressed with her colleagues and their dedication to teaching. She found it quite interesting that she finished her career working with a life long friend, Helen Powers Litle. began teaching together, at Northern Adirondack, in 1976. Linda was very moved by the efforts of her friends and former colleagues in Ellenburg and Chazy to stay supportive through all those years apart. She was disappointed that there were not enough tomorrows to get together again. She loved Queen Creek and the Arizona winters, but always referred to the North Country as her home. She is survived by her husband, Tim; daughters, Emily Carr Pochardt and Emilys husband, Jack, Melissa Di Natale and Melissas husband, Mike; and two grandchildren, Josh and Jordan Landrio. Linda had 13 brothers and sisters, Janet Dunham of Highland, N.Y., Nancy Donahue of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Sally Lewis of Maybrook, N.Y., Kathy Peck of Georgia, Judy Martello of Kentucky, Susan King of Pine Bush, N.Y.; and a brother, Robert Ferdon of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She was predeceased by sisters, Sylvia Garcia, Joan Tetz-Warren, Donna Ferdon; and brothers, Richard Ferdon, and Roger Ferdon. In keeping with Lindas request, there were no calling hours or formal services. In typical Linda fashion, she requested that people fill out organ donor cards. Her family, friends and colleagues have established a scholarship fund to benefit students continuing their education beyond high school.
