Obituary: Marjorie Holly Cooke, 90, of Ellington, wife of the late George R. Cooke, passed away peacefully on , 17, 2017 with her family at her side. Born in Elmira, NY, the daughter of the late Norman and Lonnelle (Palmer) Holly, she grew up and lived in Pittsfield, MA and Vernon before moving to Ellington over 53 years ago. Marjorie was one of the founding members of the Ellington Wesleyan Church, and she was an active and devoted member of her church, serving on various committees along with teaching school. Marjorie was volunteer for the American Red Cross for many years. Her mission in life was to share the message of her beloved savior, Jesus Christ in hopes of leading others to salvation. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her life revolved around her Faith in Christ and her great grandchildren. Marjorie is survived by four children, Lonnelle Nicol and her husband John of Stafford, Dwight Cooke and his wife Jeanne of Stafford, Elaine Cooke of Ellington, and Dawn Bankert and her husband Steve of North Attleboro, MA; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Holly, and her sister, Dorothy Blanchard. Her family will receive friends for calling hours on , 22, 2017 from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon , 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon followed by a funeral service beginning at 6 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family. Obituary: A. Cooke, 82, of South Windsor wife of the late David Cooke of Rocky Hill died suddenly 2, 2015, at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Manchester to the late Walton Hansen Alexander and Laura Mae (Bridges) Alexander. She grew up in South Windsor moved to Rocky Hill spent a few years in Sun City, AZ. and recently moved back to South Windsor. had a passion for many things; she collected artifacts, was a founder of FOSA (Friends of the Office of State Archaeology, Inc.); she worked alongside her close friend, Dr. Nick Bellantoni, State Archaeologist; she had a great affinity for the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, hiking, and would sit for hours telling of her adventures. Also Dividend Pond in Rocky Hill hosts s Green Trail, in her honor. She would also enjoy bowling, surface hunting, as well as volunteering at the Dinosaur State Park in Rocky Hill. loved animals and all wildlife; she was into arts and crafts and was a member of both Rocky Hill and South Windsor Historical Societies, also donated her time at Wood Memorial Library in South Windsor and Cora J. Belden Library in Rocky Hill. Leaves behind four children; her son, Benjamin E. Obituary: George R. Cooke, 90, of Ellington, husband of over 66 years to Marjorie (Holly) Cooke, passed away peacefully on , 7, 2015. Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the son of the late Edwin and Patricia (Broderick) Cooke, he grew up and lived in Pittsfield, MA and Vernon before moving to Ellington fifty years ago. He was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, Class of 1942. He proudly served in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a flight engineer during World War II. Prior to his retirement in 1986, George was a computer layout manager with IBM for thirty-four years. George was a member of the Ellington Safety Commission for twelve years and he was an auxiliary state policeman for many years. He was a dedicated member of the Bradley Air Museum and he worked on restoring the B-52 Bomber. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Lonnelle Nicol and her husband John of Stafford, Dwight Cooke and his wife Jeanne of Stafford, Elaine Cooke of Ellington, and Dawn Bankert and her husband Steve of North Attleboro, MA; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Edwin Cooke of Pittsfield, MA, and many nieces and nephews. services and burial will be private and at the convenience of his family. Obituary: COOKE, Doris Belle (Pidgeon) Cooke, 89, of West Hartford, passed away on 10, 2017 in Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. Born 13, 1928, she was the youngest daughter of Sylvia I. (Decker) and Raymond Aloysius Pidgeon. Doris was the beloved wife of Seeley B. Cooke. Together they owned Seeleys stead Restaurant and Hotel in Colliersville, New York. Seeley predeceased her by 55 years with his untimely death on 6, 1962. Widowed at 34 years old, she raised four young children alone, in often challenging financial circumstances. Doris graduated from St. Marys School in Oneonta, New York in 1944 where she was taught by the Sisters of Mercy. She often referred to St Marys fondly as her second home. She attended Oneonta High School from 1944-48 and enjoyed being a drum majorette. Education became important in the Cooke family; all four of her daughters graduated from college. Before her marriage, Doris worked as an operator with the New York Telephone in Oneonta and Rochester, New York. her husbands death, she worked in the nutrition departments of r Folks TB Hospital, Fox Hospital and Hartwick in Oneonta. While at Hartwick, she fought to organize a union to improve salaries and working conditions for employees. From her fifties to mid sixties, Doris spent many happy years living with two of her daughters in her favorite city, Boston, Massachusetts, and working for the Cabot Corporation as a switchboard operator. One of her favorite pastimes was to introduce her grandchildren to Bostons museums and historical sites. Doris is survived by two older sisters, Sylvia I. Conigliaro of Naples, Florida and Lois Whiteman of Oneonta, New York, and also by her four daughters, Regina (and David) Englert of West Hartford, Sheila (and Phil) Goodwin of Woodville, Massachusetts, Michelle (and Robert) Atchinson of Boston, Massachusetts, and Stacey Carr and (and Robert Rockwood) of North Andover, Massachusetts. Doris was known as Nana or Gram to her seven much-loved grandchildren, Daniel Seeley Atchinson (wife Jeanna), Katherine (Atchinson) Harrington (husband Rick), and Christine Atchinson, Matthew Vaughan, Elizabeth Vaughan, all residing in Massachusetts, and Nathaniel Englert and Jonathan Seeley Englert of West Hartford, Connecticut. Four great-grandchildren, William, Teddy, and Ainsley Harrrington and Bobby Atchinson affectionately knew Doris as GG. Time spent with family was precious to her. Doris delighted in her growing family. Doris was very proud of her Irish heritage. A highlight of her life was a trip along the western coast of Ireland. She followed Notre Dame and Patriots football, and enjoyed reading murder mysteries. She wrote poetry, and collected books of poetry and books on subjects related to Irelands history and culture. Doris lived for 22 years in West Hartford, Connecticut. A lover of seafood, Doris was a regular at her favorite restaurant, Max Oyster Bar in West Hartford where many staff members knew her name. Special thanks to Christine Cosgrove, APRN, Molly Moorer, RN and Diane Jean, RN of the Hartford Hospitals Cardiac Infusion who cared for Doris over the past three years with warm wit and wisdom. Their loving concern and friendship will never be forgotten. Courageous in life and courageous in death, Doris family and friends will greatly miss her loving and larger-than-life presence. Obituary: Clayton E. Cooke, 92, of Avon and Marco Island, FL, beloved husband of the late Evelyn L. (Colturi) Cooke, passed away 8, 2015 surrounded by his family. Born in Waterbury to the late Harry A. and Doris (Burgar) Cooke, he was raised in Morris and West Hartford. He graduated from Hall High School and UConn, and was employed by Kaman Aerospace for over 25 years, later retiring from Rexham Corp. in 1988. During WWII, Clayton served in the Philippines with the US Army Engineers. He was an active member of the Gildo Consolini VFW Post #3272 in Avon, often giving presentations at Avon High School about his experiences during WWII. He enjoyed summers in Old Lyme, traveling with Evelyn, and wintering in Marco Island. Clayton was an avid golfer and talented artist known for his Norman Rockwell reproductions, but the most important thing to him was his family. He is survived by daughters Judy-Ann Cooke of East Granby and Mary-Beth Fairchild and her husband Todd of West Hartford; brother Harry Cooke and his wife Hazel of Simsbury; sister-in-law Kathy Cooke of Enfield; granddaughter Hannah Marie Cooke and her fiancé Steve Sweeney; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother Shirley Cooke and brother Donald Cooke.
