Obituary: Deaconess Leo Arlene Coles, 82, of Waterbury, Connecticut, formerly of Danbury, passed away , 16th, 2015 at Kimberly Hall surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Wallace G. Coles, affectionately called Daddy and Buster. Mrs. Coles was born on 23,1933 in Gretna, Virginia, daughter of the late Clifton and Agnes (Kelly) Bobbit. Arlene was the youngest of eleven children and was called Aunt Leo and Grandma Leo by family and close friends, but preferred Arlene while interacting in other social circles. receiving her education from the Virginia public school system, Arlene decided to migrate north and moved in with her sister Nanny and brother in law William upon arrival. She soon established herself in Danbury CT and worked in the manufacturing business at American Radionics for many years. She was known at her job as a leader, a spokesperson for others and fun loving. She was often found playing practical jokes on her work mates, keeping a pleasant atmosphere. She also worked at North American Bank where she retired from at 62, and later worked part time with the Goodwill working with ABI patients. Leo Arlene was a people person. She loved helping others and people were drawn to her as a confidant, providing lifes wisdom. She would ell you the truth whether you liked it or not, hoping to encourage her loved ones to live a life or values and morals. Leo Arlene was an outstanding cook, learning from her mother at a young age. Particularly known for cooking fresh vegetables, roasts, and delicious desserts. Leo Arlene also loved to play games, pokeno, cards, sequence and was known talk across the board and sometimes do whatever she needed to in order to win. She would then break out in a huge laugh and turning red in the face. She also liked to fix jewelry, taking broken pieces and making new pieces. Leo Arlene was an excellent steward of her resources and took pride in handling her business. She didn always trust banks and insurance companies, preferring to save her own money. Once she showed her children 10 paychecks she had stashed away in order to buy new furniture. She did not believe in credit cards, preferring to pay in cash. She would not waste money and lived frugal, however, she would often share when needed. Deaconess Coles was a believer in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and served the Lord from a child. As a young adult, she was a member of a gospel group in Virginia in which they traveled around from town to town giving God the praise. Upon moving to Danbury at the age of 21, she soon became a member of her familiy church, New Hope Baptist Church where she was a longstanding member, serving in many capacities. She was always an active participant in the life of the church, singing in the gospel choir, past president of the Deaconess Board and served as needed in such things as the pastoral search committee and the church building fund. Deaconess Coles loved her pastor and was very supportive of his initiative to start a satelite church in Waterbury, working hard to invite family and friends to attend. She has some rich relationships with so many church family members, many which have passed on. When she could no longer make it to church, she was very appreciative of the members who would call her and keep her abreast of church business. She cherished her family. From her own parents, siblings, husband, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, she loved them all. She was known to sacrifice herself for others in order to try to assist them anyway she could. Called Ma, Grandma, Aunt Leo, or Leo by her siblings and cousins, she had so many rich relationships.
She was a great example of Christian Womanhood, as she received the love of God and passed it on to as many as possible. Deaconess Leo Arlene Coles exemplified the Word of God in her life, particularly in Proverbs 31:10-31. She not only read the word, but practiced her faithfulness to the Lord in everyday life. Deaconess Leo Arlene Coles, leaves three children, Rev. Brenda Lammie (Ralph Sr.) of Windsor, Alphdella Coles of Windsor and Wallace G. Coles Jr. (Lisa) of Waterbury. She also leaves two sisters, Lousie Potter of Miami, Florida, Corine Coles of New Britain, two close nieces Barbara Jean Willis of Washington DC and Betty Ann Jaynes of Bristol CT. She also leaves 10 cherished grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

You were the sunlight in our day, You are the moon we see far away. You are the tree
we lean upon, You are the one that makes troubles be gone. You are the one who
taught us life, How not to fight, and what is right. You are the words inside our song,
You are our love, our life, our mom. You are the one who cares for us, You are the
eyes that help us see. You are the one who knows us best, When it's time to have fun
and time to rest. You are the one who has helped us to dream, You hear our heart and
you hear our screams. Afraid of life but looking for love, we e blessed for God sent
you from above. You are our friend, our heart, and our souls. You are the greatest
friend we know. You are the words inside our song, You are our love, our life, our
