Obituary: Phyllis L. Cotten 26, 1931 - 21, 2016 Phyllis Cotten, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully on 21st, 2016 in Longmont, Colorado at the age of 84. She and her cherished husband Leonard were married for 60 years before his passing in 2011. Phyllis was born in Detroit, Michigan the second of two children born to the late David and Ida Bloch. Her parents divorced when she was a child. Though this was out of her control, this made her very strong and independent. She worked in sales for much of her life, beginning with Outfitting in Detroit and later working for over 25 years at Montgomery Ward in Colorado Springs. She received many store and regional awards for her excellence in sales while she also raised a family. Phyllis and Leonard were very proud to build their home in the northern part of Colorado Springs, which in 1964 was considered "the prairie". raised their four daughters to be educated and self-sufficient. The Cotten family were members of Temple Shalom in Colorado Springs and Phyllis was also a member of Hadassah and the Temple Sisterhood. She loved her extended family there. Music was an important part of Phyllis' life. She had a lovely singing voice and she and Leonard spent many a happy evening listening to the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra or dancing to the Big Band sounds at the Broadmoor. She also loved hiking with the family around Cheyenne Mountain and Gold Camp Road and later in life traveled extensively with Leonard. She leaves behind her four loving daughters Susan Grabbs, Nancy Cotten, Lisa Crook, and Diane Bloch. Three grandchildren Daniel and Zachary Crook, and Victoria Grabbs. And also four great grandchildren Ruchama, Ita Brucha, Shifra, and Nachum Crook. She will be missed. Memorial contributions can be made to Temple Shalom, Colorado Springs, CO. |

Obituary: Leonard Cotten, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully on 12th, 2011 in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 84. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, 18,1926 the 1st of two children born to the late Hiram and Ann Cohen. Leonard graduated from Cass Technical High School with honors in Mechanical Arts in 1944 and from the University of Michigan in 1950 with a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. It was during his college years that he made the difficult decision to change his last name from Cohen to Cotten in order to overcome discrimination during his studies. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 where he was a staff sergeant and taught soldiers the art of diesel engine repair. He worked for two years at Chrysler Motors as a production line engineer and thirty years at Ampex Corporation in Colorado Springs as a tooling design engineer where he was part of the team that designed the first instant replay video system for network TV. He loved to laugh, dance, sing, hike, travel, and was an honored member of Temple Shalom in Colorado Springs. He leaves behind his cherished wife of sixty years, Phyllis, and four wonderful daughters Suzanne, Nancy, Lisa and Diane. He will be missed.
