Obituary: Graveside funeral services for Bill Carpenter, 87 year old Buffalo resident who passed away early morning will be held by his family in the Oak Hill in Belle Plaine, Iowa at a time to be announced by his family. Visitation will be held from the Harness Chapel in Buffalo on , 17th from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Donations in Bills memory may be made to the Buffalo Wesleyan Church Building Fund or the Buffalo Senior in care of the Harness at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo. Online Condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com William Dean Carpenter was born on 8, 1928 in Belle Plaine, Iowa to William and Nelle Carpenter. He grew up and received his education in Belle Plaine and graduated from Belle Plaine High School with the class of 1945. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served aboard the USS Albemarle and at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Trinidad, British West Indies. Following his discharge from the Navy Bill attended Cedar Rapids Business in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was married on 18, 1951 to Marilyn Howard in Cedar Rapids. later moved to Belle Plaine where they made their home and had a set of twins, Bradley William and Barbara Lynne. He was employed by Burrows Publishing Co. in Belle Plaine, Iowa for several years and in 1964 along with a partner he leased and later purchased the Victor Record in Victor, Iowa which he owned and operated as Victor Printers Inc. until 1989. It was then that he retired and he and Marilyn moved to LaFeria, Texas and in of 1990 they moved to Buffalo, Wyoming. In 2000 they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they lived until 2003 before moving back to Buffalo. Marilyn passed away in of 2013 and Bill continued living in Buffalo until the time of his death. Bill was a volunteer fireman in both Belle Plaine and Victor, Iowa. He was a member of the Victor Baptist Church and the Victor Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Buffalo Wesleyan Church and was very involved with the Buffalo recycling program. Bill was active in the Buffalo Senior and enjoyed activities at the Johnson YMCA. He is survived by one son Brad Carpenter and his wife Gay of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one daughter, Barb Wohlbrandt and her husband Duane of Buffalo; one sister Betty Rusk of Belle Plaine, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jill Ford and Jacy Buck both of Cedar Rapids and four great-grandchildren Cherokee and Paige Ford and Ally and Ava Buck. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. |
