Obituary: Marion Helen Cammack Born: 16, 1914 to Charles John Ott and Mary Ann Schuh Ott Milwaukee, WI (weighed around 2 pounds, no incubator so she was kept warm in a cotton lined cigar box) Died: 30, 2015 Vancouver, WA (at age 100 years, 7 months, 14 days) Marion grew up in Milwaukee and later her family moved to Sturgeon, Bay, WI. Her older brother, Chuck, had a best friend from Milwaukee named Donald Nelson Cammack, both of whom loved the outdoors. Don would ide the rails from Milwaukee to Sturgeon Bay and come to visit Chuck. Chuck told his sisters Don even think of hanging out with Don, hes my friend. That was all Marion needed to hear. She made sure she made friends with Don. He proceeded to pursue her, again iding the rails, until she caught him (or vise a versa). were married 26, 1933 by the justice of the peace in Sturgeon Bay. spent their first year working on a farm in the Sturgeon Bay area. Their son, Donald Marion, was born in 1934. had moved to Milwaukee and Don found work at Cuttler Hammer, the same firm his father worked for. In a few years they moved to Thiensville, WI which is now Mequon, WI. It was there, in 1938, their first daughter, Janice Edna was born. Later Don took a job with a firm called North American Press and continued there until he retired. Their second daughter, Susan Carol, was born in 1949. Don and Marion moved to West Allis, WI in 1960 and lived there until Don passed away in 1994. Marion then moved to Friendship Village, now named Trinity Village, in Brown Deere, Wisconsin where she lived for 15 years enjoying many good times with her dear friend, Edna Kuhnle. In her later teen years Marion began to question many of her beliefs and relationship with God. Don, being a strong Christian with a strong Christian herritage, witnessed to her and lived his life with Christ in front of Marion. In 1944 an Evangelist called Happy Mac was advertized in the paper as coming to Garfield Avenue Baptist Church in Milwaukee. Don asked Marion if she would like to go. She said Yes, so they went, taking their two young children with them. It was at that time that Marion made a decision for Christ. She accepted Him as her very own peronal Savior and proceeded to learn all she could about Him and her life with Him. Marion and Don both eventually became involved in Garfield Avenue Baptist Church on Second and Garfield Avenue, now Spring Creek Church. Marion began working in the Beginner School Classes and this quickly became a major part of her service to her Lord and with that Church family. She taught in the Beginners department for over 50 years. She loved teaching the little ones about her Savior and enjoyed seeing them grow up to adulthood and accept Jesus as their own personal Savior and serve Him. The Lamb family and Pastor Barnards family were very dear to her as were Delamae Gifford and many others too numerous to mention. In the 1950s, when a young marrieds School class started a ministry to mentally challenged children and their families, Marion and her daughter taught the first classes held for these children during the morning worship time. Marion remained a faithful supporter of the Shepherds Ministries all the remaining years of her life. She especially loved Larry Cayton and Allen Kline. Marion also spent much time in the church kitchen. Marion and Don were good parents and their personalities complimented each other perfectly. Marion and Don were always ready to help anyone in need. This help would include transporting them, shopping for them, fixing their appliances, etc. Marion loved cooking for people and no one ever left her table hungry. She worked as a domestic and loved the families she served. She counted the Wittenbergs and Andres as close friends. Marion and Don both enjoyed spending time with their church friends, and Rook parties were a favorite pastime thanks to the Geithmans, Browns, Newtons, and Achtebergs. were also close to their neighbors, especially the Schmidt families. Yatzee and Scrabble were favorite pastimes for Marion with her neighborhood friends and grandchildren. Marions family is very grateful to the many friends who helped Marion as she aged and could not always do things for herself. Bev and Larry Morris were always willing to be there for her and to do the things Marions children could not do because of the physical distance that separated them. Also, Bev Melder was a great friend and help to our Mother. When her physical abilities really decreased, Marion was moved to a care center in Vancouver, WA to be close to her daughter, Susan. Her care giver, Daniella Micu, became her best friend. Marion loved her as a daughter and we are very grateful for the loving, Christ-centered care she gave to Marion. Marion will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by three children: Donald Marion Cammack, Janice Edna Cammack Blackstad (Robert), and Susan Carol Cammack Smith (Tom). Eight grandchildren: Jennifer Cammack Wynstra (John), Michael Cammack (Diana), Daniel Cammack (Sachiko), Mark Blackstad, Julie Blackstad Gorham, Scott Blackstad, Kelley Smith Swalling, Michael Smith (Melissa). Thirteen great-grandchildren, one great, great grandchild, eleven nieces and nephews, and many friends. |
