Obituary: Herbert Phalti Crickenberger, 95, of Lynchburg passed away , 27, 2015 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was of the husband of 75 years to Katherine Oliver Crickenberger. Born 12, 1919, in Bedford , he was the son of the late Warren Alvin Crickenberger and the late Lilly Belle Crickenberger. Herbert was an employee of Dusty Ducts, Inc., where he was known as Mr. C., and he was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church for over 50 years, where was the oldest serving deacon. Herbert also served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Mays; and two grandsons, Richard Campbell and Baby Lester Jones. In addition to his wife, Herbert is survived by his children, Dianne Campbell and her husband Glenn of Pleasant View, Brenda Whitehead and her husband Mac of Forest; Cindy Jones and her husband Joe of Madison Heights; and Rick Crickenberger and his wife Diane of Goode; three siblings, Jessie Burkholder of Norfolk; Lloyd Crickenberger of Lynchburg and Jeanette Boles and her husband Percy of Rocky Mount; thirteen grandchildren, Greg Mays, Glen Mays, Renee Mays, Glenda Gowen-Nixon, Glen Campbell, Jr., Billy Campbell, Chris Coley, Valarie Martin, Derrick Coley, Tabitha Coley, Kyle Crickenberger, Megan Crickenberger and Hannah Crickenberger ; twenty-one great grandchildren, Ethan, Melissa, Stephanie, Michael, Sydney, Hunter, Joshua, Kristen, Nicholas, Justin, Olivia, Cheyenne, Jacob, Jordan, Kincaid, Grace, Reed, Lindsay, Peyton, Ravyn and Finn ; and other great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., , 30, 2015, at Thomas Road Baptist Church-Pate Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Falwell, Rev. Mike Fitzgerald and Rev. David Heerspink officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest, VA, where Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16. Obituary: Zada Walthall Crews, 90, of Lynchburg, passed away on , 4, 2017, at Westminster Canterbury. She was the wife of the late Marvin Woodson Crews. Born on May 19, 1926, in Campbell , she was the daughter of the late Elwood Grey Walthall and Stella Stowers Walthall. She grew up in Altavisa with her four sisters, and had many amusing stories about serving meals with her sisters in the Walthalls boarding house. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Gloria Mae Walthall, and Shirley Walthall Pulley of Courtland, VA, and Helen Walthall Sumpter of Eden, NC. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Walthall Frazier of Altavista who is curently residing in Lynchburg. Zada is also survived by her sons, Ralph Chip Crews and wife, Becky of Williamsburg, Gary Crews and wife, Patty of Edmond, OK, and Keith Crews and wife, Beth of Charlottesville; five grandchildren, Katie Crews Baiocco and husband, Joe of Fairfield, CT., Scott Crews of Carrboro, NC, Ashley Crews Costello and husband, Jimmy of Alexandria, VA., Andrea Crews of San Francisco, CA., and John Crews of Edmond, OK; two great grandchildren, Samantha Baiocco and Amy Baiocco, both of Fairfield, CT; and by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Zada attended Madison in Harrisonburg. She and Marvin lived in Lynchburg, Alexandria and Richmond from 1946 to 1969 and then moved to Marietta, GA where they resided until 1989. While living in Atlanta, Zada worked for Georgia International Insurance for 20 years and retired as Assistant VP of Personnel. Zada and Marvin then moved back to Virginia, settling in Amherst in 1989. While in Amherst she was an active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and a member of Winton Country Club where she enjoyed swimming during the summer months. Zada loved to play bridge, to garden, and to spend time at the beach. She was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on , 14, 2017, at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights, Va. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service starting at 1 p.m. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Westminster Canterbury for the loving care given to Zada for the past few years. would also like to thank Jenny Stoner, Zadas assisted living companion, for her love and devoted care to Zada.
