Obituary: Neva T. Cooper, age 86, of Bassett, died , May 20, 2011, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry . Born in Patrick , 12, 1924, she was a daughter of the late James Claiborne Turner and Laura Vaughan Turner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel A. Cooper; sisters, Lucy Turner and Vivian Bowling, and brothers, Tony Turner and Kermit Turner. Neva was a graduate of Woolwine High School, and was a member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family and her many friends. Surviving is her daughter, Kermeen C. Robertson of Collinsville; her son, Jack Macon Cooper and his wife, Bonnie of Danville; sister, Judy Campbell of Hagerstown, MD; brother, Juel Turner of Roanoke; grandchildren, Dan Cooper Robertson and Cheryl T. Priddy; and great-grandchildren, Cooper Robertson, Grace Priddy and Barry Priddy. The graveside funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. , May 23, 2011, at Henry Memorial Park with Dr. Joey McNeill officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone in Bassett where online condolences may be made at www.collinsmckeestonebassett.com. Obituary: Nellie Doss Cooper, 104, formerly of Lynchburg, passed into eternal life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on , 5, 2015, at Southside Regional Medical , Petersburg, Va. Mrs. Cooper was a longtime resident of Fort Avenue, eight years at Valley View Retirement Community, and fifteen months at Colonial Heights , Colonial Heights, Va. Nellie was one of twelve children born to J. Walker and Sarah Shoemaker Doss, living in both Appomattox and Campbell counties. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank W. Cooper and her three sons, Wallace (infant), W.F. Billy, and Jerry. Nellie is survived by 11 nieces and three nephews, and predeceased by three nieces and five nephews. Nellie was a longtime member of Hill Baptist Church, Lynchburg. She endeared herself to family and friends. She was a most loved lady. Nellies funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on , 10, 2015, at Hill Baptist Church, 1101 Floyd Street, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Andrew Grose, former pastor at Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service starting at noon. Obituary: Mildred Wright Cooper, 101, of Madison Heights went to be with her Lord on , May 18, 2017 after living a long, fulfilling life. She was the widow of James Russell Cooper. She was born in Amherst on 29, 1915, daughter of the late James Monroe Wright and the late Mattie Lee Drinkard Wright. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers; Charles, James Jr., and Aubrey Wright as well as a sister, Hazel Wright Layne. Granny as she was affectionately known to her family, leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and caring sons, Lawrence Russell Cooper, Sr. and Jerome Garnett Cooper, Sr. as well as her dedicated, loving daughter and long time devoted caregiver, Julie Gayle Cooper; her grandchildren, Lawrence Russell Cooper, Jr., Melodie Ann Cooper, Karen Elizabeth Groff (Mike), Jerome Garnett Cooper, Jr. (Jennifer), and Stacey Nichole Cooper (Leslie); her great grandchildren, Lauren, Megan, Michael, Kerry, Jessica, Hannah and Charleigh; and her great-great grandchildren, Isabella, Roman and Griffin. Mildred was a lifelong member of Madison Heights United Methodist Church now known as Amelon United Methodist Church. She was a faithful worker in her church for many years. Mildred was best known for her love and adoration for her family as well as their devotion to her. She has a strong, amazing faith in God and clearly demonstrated her faith in everything she did. She was an excellent cook who loved cooking for her family at their many celebrations. Mildred was also an avid New York Yankees and UVA basketball fan. She had the opportunity to attend games and to see such great ball players as Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio. To show an example of Mildreds youthful spirit, she took her daughter to one of the first Beatles concerts in Baltimore! Mildred loved traveling and seeing new sights and places as long as she was able. All who met her quickly noticed her quick wit and sense of humor. She attended Lynchburg following her graduation from Madison Heights High School where she was salutatorian. She retired in 1983 from Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation and was a member of the Quarter Century Club, whose members she stayed in touch with for years after retiring. Mildred had a positive attitude, and always put others before herself. When asked what the key to her longevity was, Mildreds answer was Love Everyone. The family would like to thank the Centra Hospice Staff, Team Nurse Staff, and a special friend, Teresa, for her kindness and compassion. Memorials may be made to Monelison Volunteer Rescue Squad, 120 Amer Circle, Madison Heights, VA 24572. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:30 pm on , May 23, 2017 at Amelon United Methodist Church where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm with Pastor Lawrence A. Erbin officiating.
