Obituary: Coon, Otho William "Bill" III, 71, of Richmond, at the 5:00 hour in the afternoon on 21, 2011, lost a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Janet Congdon Coon; his sisters, Patti Coon Ellis and Angela Peck Coon; nephew, Borden Ellis and wife, Michelle Kovacs, and their children, Sophie Ellis and Cadmus Ellis; Bills aunt, Connie Coon Nalls; a first cousin who was like a brother, E. N. Camden IV and wife, Diana Camden, and their children, Eddie Camden and Bridget Camden; also first cousins, Bertha Cundiff, Carl and Faye Nalls. Other surviving family members include his mother-in-law, Hazel Congdon; sister-in-law, Jeanne Evans and husband, Jack Evans, and their children, Mark Evans, Brian Evans and wife, Cynthia Evans, and their sons, Dylan Evans and Casey Evans. Bill was the son of O.W. Coon Jr. and Virginia Austin Coon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his niece, Jennifer Coon; and his brother-in-law, Tommy Ellis. Bill Coon was born 30, 1939 and grew up in Fincastle, Va., a hometown that he truly loved. He graduated from Fincastle High in 1958. He was an actor in Thy Kingdom Come, an outdoor drama in Salem, Va. He attended Union in Barbourville, Ky. Bill served proudly in the U. S. Army in San Antonio, Texas. the Army, he entered R.P.I. and graduated in 1968 with a B.S. degree. Bill taught at George Wythe and Maggie Walker High Schools for several years. His love of cars led him to work a second job, in sales, at Boulevard Import, where he later became the sales manager, a position he held for a number of years. Bill then purchased and operated a car dealership in Orange, Va. Although he loved the car business, he decided to go into real estate sales, first at Phillip H. Hickerson, Inc. and later at Teal Building, Inc. He then joined Suntrust Mortgage, Inc. as the business developer and was there until 2005 when he retired. Bill was devoted to his alma mater R.P.I./V.C.U., serving on numerous boards and committees at V.C.U., the City of Richmond, The Builders Association of Richmond, and in the community. He was an avid V.C.U. basketball fan. Bill was perfect for sales. He was "Mr. Congeniality," with a quick wit and a dry sense of humor. He always had a great story or good joke to lift your mood. He was kind, insightful and always a gentleman. The family will receive friends , 28, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody , 1771 N. Parham Road, and where a memorial service will be held , 29, at 2 p.m. Interment at a later date.
