Obituary: LTC, USA (Ret.) Army Corps of Engineers Gerald Albert Clausing, born 23, 1920 in Lucien, Oklahoma, died 24, 2015 at The Fairfax Retirement Community, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Raised in Coffeyville, Kansas, one of five boys, he graduated from the University of Kansas with a BA in Business Administration in 1942 and was drafted into the US Army that . He completed Officer Candidate School, became a Combat Engineer and served in Germany clearing the Rhine and building bridges for advancing troops. He continued his combat service both in Korea, receiving a Bronze Star with V for valor, and later was an advisor to the South Vietnamese army. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1966 and started a new career as a teacher of social studies in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. his retirement from that profession he moved to The Fairfax where he continued his love of travel, much of it space available on military aircraft, was an active member of the community, helping others in many ways, especially with tax preparations, as well as working in and helping others in the woodworking shop. He continued a family tradition there of beekeeping for several years. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Winifred Hargrove Clausing, his son Donald Clausing, and four grandchildren, Nicole, Hilary, Ingmar Clausing and Silke Clausing Smith. He is predeceased by his parents, Albert Henry Clausing and Carol Lietzke Clausing and two sons, Dean and Stephen Clausing. Services with Full Military Honors will be at Fort Myer Post Chapel, interment Arlington National on , 24, 2015 at 9 am. Reception will follow at Fort Myer Officers Club.
