Obituary: Richard Holton Cracroft
(1936-2012) Richard Holton Cracroft, 76, our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, professor, mission president and friend died on , 20, 2012, having lived long enough, beset as he was by a host of physical ailments. Through his life Dick employed boundless energy, enthusiasm, in all he undertook. He loved to write and speak about his deep faith and hope in the he plan of happiness and the Author of our Salvation. He thanks his doctors and the wonderfully professional and very human dialysis technicians at DaVita Dialysis for helping Janice keep him alive and comfortable for a long time. Now he has returned , bruised, scarred, battered, and fatally short-of-breath, and counting on the promise of a restorative Resurrection, which he hopes will dry all tears, ease all disappointments, and fix everything. Dick was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 28, 1936, to Ralph and Grace Darling White Cracroft, the baby among two brothers and a sister, Laurance White Cracroft, Ralph Paul Cracroft, and Helen Grace Cracroft White (all of whom with their spouses predeceased him). He married Janice Marie Alger in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on 17, 1959. Theirs was a wonderfully happy marriage. have three cherished children: Richard Alger Cracroft (wife Dyanna died 2001); Jeffrey Ralph Cracroft; Jennifer Cracroft Lewis (died, 1994; Jens husband became a third son to Janice and Dick and later married Carolyn Cohen, who became a daughter); 7 grandchildren: Elizabeth Grace, Richard Bryan, Rylee Shae, Kelsea Ann Cracroft, Jennifer Diana, Sarah Louise, Hannah Joy Lewis. A lifelong, voracious reader, he and Janice have belonged since 1964 to a Great Books study group of cherished friends. his family, however, his greatest lifelong commitment was to his ministry as a Latter-day Saint and to testifying of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Restoration. He served as a missionary and branch president in the Swiss-Austrian Mission (1956-1959)–a watershed experience which indelibly changed his life; president, Provo Utah East Stake (1973-1983); president, Switzerland Zürich Mission (1986-1989)–serving with 400 of he best missionaries in this dispensation; branch president, Provo MTC; faithful Ward and Teacher since 1950. Throughout his life, he stayed in close contact with those whom he taught the gospel as a young missionary, as well as with many of the missionaries and saints with whom he served in 1956-59 and 1986-89. He continued to the end of his life to have frequent contact with Swiss and Austrian saints. He is survived by Janice, his beloved wife of 53 years; sons, Richard A.; Jeffrey R.; son-in-law Thomas Lewis (Carolyn); 7 grandchildren; brothers-in-law Ray Alger (Ellen), Glenn P. Obituary: Janice Alger Cracroft Janice Marie Alger Cracroft, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, died on 29, 2013, after a life of wild dissolution and wonton abandon. She was born in Price, Utah, 12, 1937, the last of five children and the only daughter of Leo Lorraine Alger and Marie Price Alger. She attended elementary school in Sunnyside, Utah, where her father was the Master Mechanic for Kaiser Steel; she graduated from Carbon High School in 1954. She attended Brigham Young University, where she was forever a senior, having taken a variety of literature, religion, homemaking and German courses. In 1956 she interrupted her studies to tour Europe; after her return home she met and married Richard Holton Cracroft in the Salt Lake Temple on 17, 1959. 53 years of marriage, Dick preceded her in death on 20, 2012. Theirs is a wonderful, happy, and exemplary union. Janice and Dick were blessed with three cherished children: Richard Alger Cracroft (Dyanna Fancher, who died in 23, 2001); Jeffrey Ralph Cracroft; Jennifer Cracroft Lewis (Tom), who died in 23, 1994; six beloved grandchildren: Elizabeth Grace and Richard Bryan Cracroft; Rylee Shae and Kelsea Ann Cracroft; and Tom and Carolyn Lewis Jennifer Diana, Sarah Louise and Hannah Joy Lewis. The early deaths of Jennifer and Dyanna constituted the great sorrows and tests of Janice and Dicks lives. Always a devoted and valiant Latter-day Saint and gospel scholar, she served as Primary president, Young Womens president, counselor, advisor, certified camp director; Relief Society spiritual living teacher,, Relief Society president (Provo Bonneville Ward); stake, ward Relief Society secretary (Provo Utah East Stake, Orem Cascade 1st Ward), stake Relief Society president and twice a counselor (Provo Bonneville Stake Relief Society); Gospel Doctrine teacher, and lifelong 100% Visiting Teacher par excellence.. She served as companion to her husband as bishop (twice)and stake president, and as president of the Switzerland Zürich Mission, 1986-89, where she endeared herself to some 400 missionaries and the Swiss saints, who appreciated her unusual ability to understand and communicate in German. A serious reader, she belonged, since 1964, to the Great Books Study Group of dear friends, and she was a longtime member of Pro Libris book club. She achieved genuine greatness–Dick called it sainthood--as Dicks devoted wife, companion and best friend, as the selfless and caring mother to Rich, Jeff, and Jennifer and their spouses, and as a remarkable nurturer and grandmother to her beloved grandchildren, who were the (Golden Delicious) apple of her eye. Janice is a great lady, a Mother in Israel who will be sorely missed and tenderly remembered and whose company we look forward to in future. She is survived by her sons Richard and Jeffrey and son-in-law Tom; 7 grandchildren; brothers, L. Ray Alger (Ellen), Moab; and Glenn Price Alger (Jackie), West Valley City.
