Obituary: Mary Elizabeth Collins was born on 21, 1939 in Greenville, Mississippi to Thomas W. and Christine Dodd. Mary was the second of six children. She had three brothers and two sisters. Mary was the last remaining child. As a child Mary helped raise her brothers and sisters while her mother spent most of her time caring for Minnie Ann, one of Marys sisters, who was confined to the hospital with Leukemia. Mary spent most of her free time on the banks of the Mississippi River and her love for the outdoors was passed on to her from her father, who was a lifelong Towboat Captain. She enjoyed hiking and spending time on the river banks. Mary was called Snook, which was the mispronunciation of sister that started with her eldest brother Earl. Mary was extremely loving and was always willing to set an extra plate at the table for any unexpected guests. Over the years, she opened her rooms and kitchen to many individuals who needed help along their way. She loved the oldies from the 50s and 60s and some of her favorites were Dean Martin, Elvis Presley, Doris Day, The Supremes, and The Everly Brothers. Some of her favorite movies and TV shows were Dirty Dancing, Star Trek, Deep Space Nine, Star Wars, and Days of our Lives. Mary wed Steven J. Collins on 16, 1959 in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and they were married 57 years. Mary was an Air Force wife whose husband served 20 years in the service until his retirement and she was a member of the Air Force Wives Club. Mary loved to spend any free time she had doing arts and crafts, sewing, crocheting, reading, bowling, and playing video/board/card games. She also enjoyed living in Las Vegas, Nevada and playing the slot machines. Mary attended Southern Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized in the Mississippi river at the age of 10. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; Thomas and Christine Dodd; her brothers Earl, Dago, and Butch Dodd; Sisters Shirley Howard and Minnie Ann Dodd; mother and father-in-law Movses and Arek Auserian; and her family pets Marque, Taffy, and Mitzie. Obituary: The spirit of Mary Price Spruell Collins departed on 31, 2014. Mary was born in Comanche on May 12, 1925. She grew up in Big Spring, Texas with her parents Nora Beatrice McKinnerney Price and James Thomas Patrick Price. She attended Big Spring schools and graduated in 1943. Her first job was with W.F. Woolworth 5 & 10 store, then as central for Southwestern Bell. When the family moved to Mason, she worked for United Telephone . With her father's health failing, the family moved to San Angelo, Texas where she worked for the San Angelo Telephone . In 1949, she married Ruben Delbert Spruell, who came with his three year old daughter, Gloria (pet name Tabby). Deb and Mary had a boy, Arnold ray, and a daughter, Wanda Delene. Mary worked for the San Angelo Telephone until General took over. Mary helped in the Parent Teacher's Association while her children were in elementary school, then as a den mother when her son went into Cub Scouts. When her daughter became a Brownie, Mary became a Girl Scout leader. She spent 15 years in scouting, serving in various capacities and taking two Girl Scout troops through to senior scouting. She won the Thanks badge, the highest award for a Girl Scout leader at that time, and the Lou Henry Hoover Award for her camp work. She became a docent at Fort Concho museum and sewed costumes for the participants. This sparked an interest in history and she became a member of the Tom Green county Historical league in 1977. She is a charter member of the San Angelo Amateur Astronomy Club and life member. In 1970, her son passed on and also his father in 1988. At the time, she was working for Bob Creel plumbing and taking art lessons at Angelo State University. Mary was a member of the national Association of Retired Federal Employees as her husband had been a postal employee. She was a charter member of AARP, San Angelo chapter, and past member of the Sierra Club. She also worked as an election judge for the Republican party. Mary loved gardening and won prizes for her plants and flowers. She was president of the Senisa Garden Club and of the Texas District Garden Club. She is a life member of the Texas District Garden Club. Mary was a lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and worked in all phases of church life. She loved singing in the choir and was a deaconess when in 1991 she married Donald Jackson Collins, Sr. She became a member of the San Angelo Art Club in 1989 and continued with her lessons. She painted portraits as well as animals, still life flowers, and scenery. She painted her final landscape when she was 83 years old. Preceding her in death are her parents; a son and his father; three brothers, Navy Chief James hennery and wife Jeanie, Airman First Class Johnny ray, and navy Chief Russell Dail; two nephews Thomas Owen and Johnny Lawrence. She is survived by her daughter Wanda Delene Morrissette; granddaughter Kristi Yvonne Browning and great-grandson Ian; granddaughter Cynthia Monique Walker and husband Brian with three great-grandsons Kristian, Sebastian, and Elijah; daughter Gloria Clark and husband Don with grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Treva Price; three nieces (Patricia Lynn price moore, Loretta Nichols, and Arlene Lipe); one nephew, Del-Ray Price; and cousins, all children of Walter McKinnerney. Obituary: Mary Louise Collins went to her eternal reward on May 16, 2014, as she passed away peacefully at the age of 90. A native San Antonian, she was born to Joe R. and Arcadia M. Garza on 26, 1924, and grew up in their loving home on the citys South Side. Although she was an only child, she was surrounded by a large extended family of cousins and dear family friends who were like brothers and sisters to her. She attended Graebner Middle School and graduated from Luther Burbank High School in 1942. While at Burbank, Mary was elected captain of the drill team and president of the homemakers club. graduation, she obtained a job she loved and made many dear friends working in a civil service position at Randolph Air Force Base. fellow Burbank classmate Morris Collins returned home from serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II, the two resumed a relationship and were wed at St. Leos Catholic Church in San Antonio on 13, 1947. Morris first career as a commercial sailor and then with the U.S. Navy, where he served as Captain during the Korean War, often left them apart, but she traveled to meet him each time he came into port and was very active with her job and activities with family and friends. Morris finished law school and began a second career as an attorney, he and Mary happily adopted six-month-old twin boys from Germany, Michael and Martin. Mary left her job of 18 years at Randolph AFB to care for the boys that she and Morris both called the greatest blessing of their lives. Her new role kept her more active than ever, as she was a loving and devoted mother; a true friend to all who knew her, always thinking of kind ways to reach out to others; and an active member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, where she was a member of the Altar Society. In her later years, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels; engaged in many activities with Blessed Sacrament Church and its VSP group, including countless hours helping with crafting for the groups fundraisers; and enjoyed time with her grandsons, of whom she was very proud. She is predeceased by her parents and by her husband, Morris, who passed away in 2006. She is survived by her son Michael J. Collins and his sons, Joshua, Noah, and Elisha; son Martin J. Collins and his wife, Julie; sisters-in-law Hazel Bernhard and Maxine Smith; nephew Jeff Smith; and many beloved cousins and friends. The family would like to express its thanks to Dr. Joseph Gonzales, Dr. Tan Vatanadilok, and the staff at Regent on Medical Drive for all of the care and support they provided in recent years, and to the team with Optum Hospice, who were so kind to her in her last days.
