Obituary: Richard L. Cole was born 25, 1946 in Dallas, TX. A long-time resident of Arlington, TX, he passed away at home on 8, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Norma Benavides Cole; his children, Jonathan Cole and wife Emily, Ashley Cole, and Carina Souflée; and his brother Randal Cole and wife Erica. Richard is remembered for his keen intellect, compassionate character, and dedication to public service. He was a proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School class of 1963, and an Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts Troop #60. Richard earned both BA and MA degrees from the University of North Texas in 1967, 1968 and a PhD in political science from Purdue University in 1973. He was a professor at UT Arlington from 1980 to his retirement in 2016 where his work focused on federalism, intergovernmental relations, and public policy. He served as Dean of the School of Urban and Public Affairs (SUPA) at UT Arlington from 1980 to 2008. While serving as Dean of SUPA he was also Interim Dean for the School of Social Work from 1996 to 1998 and Dean of the of Liberal Arts from 2001 to 2003. From 1973 to 1979 he held an associate professorship at George Washington University. He also held positions as a visiting research scholar at Yale University and UT Austin, as well as a Fulbright Scholar at Queens University Belfast. Richard was a prolific writer. He published 10 textbooks, over 80 journal articles, and numerous opinion editorials critiquing national and state public policies that endanger the rights of the most marginalized and disenfranchised in our society. Obituary: Ralph Myrle Cole, 95, passed away peacefully into eternal life with family members by his side on 5, 2015 at Methodist West Hospital. Born to Earl and Jose Cole 17, 1919, Ralph was born by midwife in a one room house west of Duncan, Oklahoma. A graduate of Comanche H.S. Class of 1937, Ralph went on to study Agronomy (soil science) at Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity. He received his Bachelors of Science degree from OK State in 1941 and went on to attend the University of Arkansas High Explosives School from 1941- 1942. Ralphs first employment was with Trojan Powder in Sandusky, OK. He went on to serve in the Armed Forces from 8-2-1943 to 8-6-1946 with active military assignments that included Staff Sergeant in the US Army and Ensign with the US Navy. Ralph sailed on the SS Juan Flaco Brown Ship, stationed off the coast of Normandy on D Day. In 1946, Ralph was hired by Swift & Co. in Chicago, IL, as a Territorial Sales Manager, and ultimately became the Head of Transportation, Purchasing, & Trading. He retired from Swift in 1979. From 1979-1991, Ralph served as a Consultant for both Chemical Enterprises and Stoller Chemical in Houston, Texas. Ralph was predeceased by his parents, Mary Jane Cole, his wife of 47 years, brothers John, Floyd and Therman and his sister, Helen. Survived by his children David Grady (Pamela) Cole , Steven (Cheryl) Cole, Susan Cole (Dusty) Thiele and William Cole. Grandchildren Jennifer Cole, Jonathon David Cole, Sarah Thiele, Laura Anne Thiele, William Whittington and great-grandchild, Victoria Cole. Our family would like to thank Houston Hospice, in addition to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Methodist West in Katy for their loving and special care of our dear father. Service will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel on , 9th at 3pm. Visitation will be on , 8th from 6 pm to 8pm. Burial in Houston National . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oklahoma State Scholarship fund in memory of Ralph Cole. |

Obituary: Ralph H. Cole, 85, of Temple, TX passed away , 31, 2009. A Service will be 2:00 in the afternoon on , 2, 2010 at Crawford-Bowers Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Hubert L. Austin officiating. Ralph was born in Gainesville, Texas to Rev. James W. and Virgie Cole. He graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelors degree in Geology. He served in the United States Marine Corp. He was an active member with the First United Methodist Church in Temple and a member of the Dawson School Class. He retired from Temple and Ft. Worth Soil Conservation Service. He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Catherine Burgin; brothers, James and Robert Cole. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Dorothy Mahler Cole of Temple; daughter, Carla Cole of Little River; son, Earl V. Cole of Ft. Worth; grandchildren: Alexandria Cole and Miranda Cole of Ft. Worth, Wendi Wesolowski and Michelle Wesolowski of Little River; sisters, Helen Bassham of Ft. Worth and Louise Wilcoxen of Illinois; and many other loving nieces and nephews. |
