Obituary: Colonel Goodley passed away in San Antonio, TX on , 21, 2015 at the age of 76. He was born in Evansville, IN on 1, 1938 to Chester V. and Amy Louise Sights Goodley. He attended Kiski Prep School in Saltsburg, PA prior to entering the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO in 1957. Colonel Goodley graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as a second lieutenant. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree from Auburn University and graduated from the Air Command and Staff , Maxwell Air Force Base, AL in 1972 and the US Army War , Carlisle Barracks, PA in 1978. Colonel Goodley attended flight training at Moody Air Force Base, GA and received his pilot wings in 1962. His first assignment was an Instructor Pilot at Moody AFB, followed by an exchange tour with the US Navy. He was stationed at Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL, where he became carrier-landing qualified and was also selected for a Top Gunner award. Colonel Goodley was then assigned to the 90th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Bien Hoa and Phu Khat Air Bases, Republic of Vietnam. He served as Chief Controller and Training Officer, Directorate of Command & Control, Headquarters US Air Forces in Europe, at Lindsey Air Station and Ramstein Air Base, Germany. From Germany his assignment was Operations Officer for the 23 Tactical Air Support Squadron, Bergstrom Air Force Base. Next was an assignment to Osan, South Korea where he was the Director, 5th Tactical Air Support Group Operations. Colonel Goodley was then selected to Command the 3636 Combat Crew Training Wing, USAF Survival School, Fairchild Air Force Base, WA; followed by an assignment to the Office of the USAF Inspector General at Norton Air Force Base, CA. He retired 1, 1991. Colonel Goodley was a Command Pilot with more than 4300 flying hours including 244 combat hours in the F-100 Super Saber Fighter aircraft. He has flown numerous aircraft which included: USAF T-33, T-37, T-38, T-39, F-100, US Navy T2b, T-4, & OV-10 and C-118. His decorations include: the Legion of Merit Medal, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, US Navy Achievement Medal, and numerous other awards and decorations. Colonel Goodley is survived by his beloved wife, the former Elenora (Casey) Dugosh of Bandera, TX; 3 loving daughters: Lori Pierce, Joanie Malarchuk, and Bonnie Goodley Biasiolli, as well as 9 grandchildren: Sarah, Kimberley, Jennifer, and Michael Pierce, Samantha and Colby Biasiolli, and Kelly, Jed and Dallyn Malarchuk. Obituary: Joe B. Tye, Jr., died with great dignity and grace on , 1, 2015, with his family and friends gathered by his bedside. Colonel Tye was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on 19, 1926. He grew up surrounded by verdant fields and white clapboard farm houses. He left Iowa to attend the United States Military Academy, and graduated in 1949. That summer, he married his soul mate, Janelle Fox Bowen, and began his career as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force. The couple enjoyed a peripatetic military life, with assignments in Florida, Texas, Colorado, California, Nebraska, and Germany, among others. He also served in Vietnam. During his 25-year career, Colonel Tye attended the Air Force Command and Staff (where he earned a Masters Degree) and the Naval War . His awards include the Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, and the Joint Services Commendation Medals. Upon retiring, he pursued his second career as an artist. Drawing upon his Iowa roots and his love for his adopted city of San Antonio, he became recognized as a realist artist of Midwest scenes and local landmarks. He received a number of regional awards; his works were featured at the Odyssey Gallery, Sol Del Rio, and Cappys on Broadway. He enjoyed gardening and good music. For over thirty years, he was a member of a fearsome tennis foursome who played regularly on mornings; and for twenty years, he served as a board member of the Martha Ellen Tye Foundation. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janelle; four children: Joe B. Tye III (Sally), Steven (Jackie), Nancy Tye-Murray (David) and Allen (Karla) and seven grandchildren: Annie and Doug Tye, Shane, Erin and Jessica Tye, and Ellen and Aubrey Murray. He was preceded in death by his sister, Avonelle Tank and his parents, Joe B. and Mina Tye. He was a remarkable and cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. The family is indebted to the healthcare staff at the Army Residence Community and Heart-to-Heart Hospice for their tender-loving care. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Army Residence Community on , 16th at 2:00 PM. Obituary: Malcolm Reid McDaniel, Col., USAF (Retired), age 85 of San Antonio, Texas passed away on , 5, 2011 after a 14 year struggle with Parkinsons. He was born 13, 1926, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the younger of two sons of the late Charles and Ethel McDaniel. The family moved to San Antonio in 1938, where Malcolm attended the Alamo Heights Schools, participated in sports, was a 4 year letterman, and was a co-captain of the football team and graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1944. He entered the Navy Flight Program in and was unable to attend his high school graduation ceremony. During the Navy Program, he was assigned and trained at Millsaps in Jackson, Mississippi, Rice Institute and the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill). He played football for Millsaps. He also graduated from the Command and Staff and the Industrial of the Armed Forces. Upon being released from active duty, he came back to San Antonio and enrolled at the University of Texas in Austin, where he graduated in 1949 with a BA. Malcolm was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and the Silver Spurs Organization while at UT. Upon graduation, he went to work at the Foundation of Applied Research (Southwest Research, where he met Virginia) until late 1950 when he again entered the Navy Flight Program at Pensacola, Florida. Malcolm received his Navy Wings and commission in , 1952. He was assigned to the VF-94 Fighter Squadron at Alameda NAS, California. On 6, 1952 he married Virginia Guido in San Antonio. His wife and family came before anything else. She was not only a faithful and loving wife of 55 years, but his soul mate for 58 years. On 15, 1952, Malcolm boarded the Carrier USS Philippine Sea for a tour of duty in Korea. He completed 59 missions in Corsair aircraft and earned the Air Medal with 5 stars, the Navy Unit Commendation and various other awards. While in Korea, he survived a mid-air collision. His helmet was ½ pink and ½ blue until his first daughter Leslie was born in of 1953. In of that year, he returned to San Antonio to pick up his family and went on to Moffett Field, California. He was an instrument instructor there until he was discharged in , 1954. While in the Navy, Malcolm is credited with having flown the SNJ, F-8F, F-4U, F-5F, T-33 and C-45, but the Bear Cat was his favorite. In 1956, he became a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard in San Antonio. Positions held while in the Guard were Squadron Commander, Deputy Group Operations Officer and Deputy Group Logistics Officer. In 1974, he was transferred to State Headquarters in Austin, as the Director of Logistics, Air National Guard, State of Texas. Malcolm remained in the Air Guard until 1976 and retired as a Bird Colonel with Command Pilot Wings. While in the Texas Air National Guard, he flew the T-33, F-86, F-102, F-84, F-100, U-3 and C-54. Upon returning to San Antonio in 1954, he went to work for his father in law at Guido Bros. Construction Co. He was Head Foreman while building the home he gave to Virginia in of 1955. In 1960 he went to work for Mead Johnson & Co., a division of Bristol Myers, as a Medical Sales Representative. He retired from Mead Johnson in 1986 and enjoyed his retirement for many years, working in his yard and gardening. Malcolm especially liked working with his hands doing cabinet/carpentry work and painting. While reminiscing, he recalls winning the First Soap Box Derby in 1940 in San Antonio and subsequently competed in nationals in Akron, Ohio that fall. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Guido McDaniel; his parents, Charles and Ethel McDaniel; his brother, Bill McDaniel; nephew, Dr. Van Rick McDaniel; sister in law, Dora Pisano; and brother in law, Louis Guido Jr. Malcolm is survived by his daughters, Leslie Moore, Susan Caddell, and Martha Jo McDaniel; grandchildren, Justin and Bradley Moore, Katie Caddell, and Rodney McDaniel and wife, Elizabeth; great grandchildren, Olivia and Jason; brother in law, Cosmo Guido and wife Toni; sister in law, Tootsie Guido; nieces, Sheri Hines and Betty Petty; and numerous other family members in Texas, Kansas and Arkansas. Visitation will be held on , 14, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough. SERVICE MONDAY NOVEMBER 14, 2011 12:00 P.M. Obituary: Eugene J. Comontofski, Lt. Colonel USAF (Retired), 56-year resident of San Antonio, passed away Mar. 22, 2014 at 94 years of age. Born on Aug. 3, 1919 in Woodland, CA, he was the son of the late Comontofski and Freida Leutwein. Though he grew up with feet planted firmly on the earth of his fathers farm, Genes eyes were always on the sky above; he fulfilled his dream, and became a career pilot. He enlisted in the Air Corps in , 1942. During WWII he flew more than a hundred perilous missions over the Himalayas as one of the China-Burma-India Hump pilots, delivering troops and supplies while taking enemy fire. He proudly served his country as a pilot for 20 years, and retired from the Air Force Logistics Command in 1962, having received several military awards, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Asia-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Medal for Humane Action - Berlin Airlift for his 114 Berlin missions flown. Following his military career, Gene was a test pilot. He retired in 1986 as a private pilot for a San Antonio corporation. Though no longer in the cockpit, his love of flying never left him - now he soars again, this time with the angels. Gene was a charter member of Oak Hills Presbyterian Church, and was a member of Randolph AFB Officers Club, the CBI Hump Pilots Association, the Order of Daedalians, and the Knife and Fork Club in San Antonio. He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife of 23 years, W. Joye Comontofski of San Antonio, TX; son Craig Comontofski (Linda) of Martinsburg, WV; son Ken Comontofski (Suzanne) of Nampa, ID; daughter Carol Elliot of Austin, TX; stepson Bret McCartney (Barbara) of Abilene, TX; sister-in-law Dorcys Burchill of Walnut Grove, CA; niece Linda Van Loben Sels (Topper) of Walnut Grove, CA; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie C. Pollock; his first wife, Louise (King) Comontofski; and a son-in-law, David J. Elliot III. Obituary: Born 4, 1918 in Emory, TX, passed away 17, 2013. Al was the 14th of 15 children in the Coker family. Al was converted and joined the Baptist church in about 1936 and was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. Al moved to Dallas in 1938, working for Briggs-Weaver until he entered the Army's 36th Infantry Division in 1940. He served about 4 1/2 years, 17 months of which were in combat in Italy and France. He was severely wounded in France by German shellfire. his discharge, Albert started working for the US Postal service in 1950, retiring in 1976. He married Kallie Marie Morris of Mesquite in 1949 and raised 3 children, Michael Wayne, Randy Clinton, and Suzanne Melancon. Albert's wife Kallie preceded him in death in 2012. The family will receive friends, 10:00 am, , 20, 2013 followed by the service at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Sparkman/Crane . Private burial at Restland Memorial Park. |
