Obituary: Constance Victoria Organ Coker 20 1950 - 7 2015 Constance, typically known as Connee, was loved by many; she was remembered by all. Connee Coker, 65, passed away in her home in Houston, Texas quickly and abruptly in the early morning of , 7 2015. Connee was born in Great Bend, Kansas on 20 1950. She lived in the USA, Venezuela, Colombia, and England. Connee studied at Bellaire High School in Texas and at Colegio Nueva Granada in Bogota, Colombia. She met her husband Robert in Houston, Texas in 1976. fell in love in the Cullen Sculpture Garden of the Museum of Fine Arts, and after a brief engagement, they were married on 17 1976. A consummate artist, Connee produced art in various media, including crochet, knitting, sewing, quilting, beadwork, needlepoint, photography, watercolor, oil painting, pencil sketches, Internet web site design, metalwork, gardening, poetry, and others too numerous to detail. She refused to sell anything she made. Connee felt great joy in giving her creations to people as gifts. Such was her generosity of spirit. Connee was a long-time student of Iyengar Yoga and Wu (Hao) Tai Chi Chuan. She gave free instruction in Tai Chi to senior citizens at the local community center, helping more than a few to learn techniques that they told her helped them to regain lost mobility. This help was one of her proudest achievements. In her spare time, she devoured a novel every two or three days. The study of philosophy occupied her other spare time. She was also a fabulous dancer. Connee rescued abandoned animals. She never had more than 7 rescues in her home at one time. The longest living rescue was Maggie-the-Cat, who passed away at the age of 21. Children and animals loved Connee. Connee called herself a Professional Aunt. As an aunt, and later, great-aunt, she loved to babysit the youngest e-people, as she called them, and built relationships that lasted to the end of her life. Connee was predeceased by her mother, Gloria Martinez de Organ (https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1706&dat=19770707&id=VUkqAAAAIBAJ&sjid=-VAEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6430,2120889&hl=en ), and her father, Alva Johnson Organ. Connee is survived by her adoring husband of 39 years, Robert Coker Jr. She is also survived by her sister Martha Strother and Marthas husband Tom Strother, along with the children: Jennifer Vardeman-Winter, her husband Matt Winter and their daughters Arya and Fallon; Nicole Vardeman Moss, her husband Skyler Moss and their son Owen; and Kyle Vardeman, his wife Megan and their daughter Olive. Connee is also survived by her brother Daniel Organ and his wife Kathryn Kidd Organ, along with their offspring: Ashley Organ, Alison Organ Bassity and her husband David Bassity, Andrea Organ, and Amanda Organ. A small private memorial gathering for Connee will be held on 7 2015. Connee wishes that her geographically distant relatives and all her friends, if they wish, make a charitable donation in lieu of flowers or travel to the memorial gathering. Any donation would be in memory of her past rescued dog and 10 subsequently rescued cats: Calamity, Whitecat, Stella Kowalski, Maggie-the-Cat, Blanche DuBois, Valentina Xavier, Brick, Holly Golightly, Chance, Dixon Hobbs and Ajax. Connee would love a charitable donation to any no-kill animal sanctuary such as the Blind Cat Rescue and Sanctuary, www.blindcatrescue.com , the Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch, founded by Kinky Friedman, www.utopiarescue.com , or any similar organization. She would be pleased equally with a donation to Golden Beginnings Golden Retriever Rescue, www.gbgrr.org , actively supported by her friends Glenn and Lynn. Or, she would be pleased with a donation to The Love Molly Fund, www.thelovemollyfund.org , founded by a friend of her niece Jennifer. Any charitable donation, of any kind, to any beneficent organization, is requested in the spirit of Matthew 25:40 (KJV): And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me. Lastly, and most importantly, any family and friends who choose to honor the request to not travel to this scheduled memorial for Constance Victoria Organ Coker, please plan to gather in any group, in any form, at any time to celebrate Connees love for you. There are many stories and fond memories of Connee to be shared. As Connees grandmother said of her own name, her daughter Glorias name, and Constance Victorias name: First there is Victory, after which comes the Glory, and then comes Constant Victory. |
