Obituary: Caroline Heiskill Parks Clyborne died on May 9, 2003 surrounded by family and friends who called, sent letters or were present. Caroline was born in Laurens, South Carolina on May 15, 1908. She was the eldest girl of six children and had a major role in running the household. She graduated from Queens in Charlotte, North Carolina with a degree in English and earned her Masters in Library Science from the University of North Carolina. Caroline moved to San Antonio in the late 30Âs to open the new bookmobile program for the city library. There she met her future husband Bill Clyborne Sr, a young widower with an infant daughter and they were married in 1940. Altough not a native Texan, Caroline is descended from Carolina Alamo hero named Heiskell. Caroline was a member of Alamo Heights Presbyterian Chruch, where she taught School, played the piano, and was an officer in Women of the Church. For twenty years she and her husband volunteered with Meals on Wheels program. When her son first joined the military, she volunteered with the American Red Cross. In addition Caroline was active with her PEO Chapter and University WomenÂs Club. In her mid 60Âs she began helping her husband with bookkeeping for his company, Roddis Lumber and Veneer. She and her husband later joined First Presbyterian Church to be with their family. Grandma is dearly remembered for the years of mornings that she spent with her grandchildren Clifton and Caroline, fixing chocolate chip cookies, making honey bars and apricot lemon cakes. She was a good listener and encourager to her grandchildren. Grandma was so great at giving us quality time and making us feel special. We will always remember the way she rewarded our successes in life with her cooking. We admired her Southern Accent and her gentle spirit, her strenghth of character and the dignity, courage and joy with which she lived her life after the loss of her husband and son. Caroline is grateful for her close friends, Lucille Cowles, Ann McCurdy, Jo Holmes, Ruth Prassel, Marianne McCurdy, Ann Nelson, Cynthia Robinson, Suzanne Letch and Pat Cortez who have come to see her over the years. Caroline will miss her dinner partner Patty Gillis. She is grateful for the good counsel that she has received throughtout the years from Bruce Weilbacher, Ryland Howard, Bill Clark, and from Debbie Eippert, and Martha Yukers at Frost National Bank. Rev. George Sturch and the Presbyterian Chruch have provided faithful services to her. Caroline was predeceased by her husbnd, William Clyborne Sr. in 1997 and her son Bill Clyborne jr. in 2002. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Janice George Clyborne and her grandchildren Clifton Parks Clyborne and Caroline Jean Clyborne. In additon she is also survived by her step-daughter Margaret Nowak, her three granchildren and six great grandchildren, all residing in Missouri. Other surviovrs are her sister Martha Shelby of North Carolina, and her brothers Tom Parks of Maryland and Dan Parks of New York. |

Obituary: CLYBORNE Bill Clyborne, age 60, of San Antonio, died peacefully in his sleep on , 27, 2002. Bill, a native San Antonian, graduated from Alamo Heights High School, Austin and The University of Texas Law School. Bill practiced law for 10 years prior to his employment with Frost Bank for 24 years, where he was a Senior Trust Officer. He retired from the reserves as a Lt. Col. having served as a JAG officer for 25 years. Bill was a Deacon and Elder of First Presbyterian Church. He served as a prosecutor for the City of Alamo Heights. Bill was active in the community and served on a number of boards. He served as President of the Olmos Kiwanis Club, the Military Division of the State Bar, the San Antonio Area Foundation and served on the Resource for Laity Lodge. He and his wife, Janice, chaired the Mission Road Shindig Gala in 2000. He gave his unique strength and spirit to every project and organization. Bill was a member of various clubs in the community, including, the Texas Cavaliers, the Order of the Alamo, The German Club, the Town Club and the San Antonio Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Janice George Clyborne; son Clifton Parks Clyborne; and daughter, Caroline Jean Clyborne. He is also survived by his mother, Caroline Parks Clyborne; and his sister, Margaret Nowak and husband, Jack of MO; brother-in-law, Charles George; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, William L. Clyborne, Sr. Bill was a real renaissance man who enjoyed a variety of hobbies such as music and woodworking. He loved many different types of music from Bach to blue grass and played banjo, guitar, Dobro, bass guitar, and harpsichord. Bill built Fourth of floats for many summers and crafted everything from cross-pens to memorial plaques. Bill was particularly close to his friends with whom he played cards for 25 years. He was happiest driving his boat around Lake LBJ with friends and family. He loved laughter and brought people together and he will be deeply missed. GRAVESIDE SERVICE WEDNESDAY Â- 9:45 A.M.
