Obituary: Margaret Fooshee Clayton, 86, beloved wife, mother, friend, and parishioner of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, died , 21, 2014 at her apartment in The Forum. She was born Margaret Ann Fooshee in Dallas, Texas on 3, 1928, attended Highland Park High School, and then the University of Texas, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She met her husband, John, when he came to the University after WWII. were engaged in New York City, while Margaret was a student in Smith Universitys Masters program in social work. She left the program that year to return to Dallas and was married on 28, 1950. spent the 52 years of their marriage in the Park Cities, first on Caruth Boulevard, then Westway Avenue. Her husband spent his career at the First National Bank of Dallas. She was predeceased by her husband, John Bunyan Clayton, III. Margaret is survived by her four children: John (Jay) B. Clayton, IV of Nashville, Harold Fooshee Clayton (Dallas), Marion (Mark) Fooshee Clayton (Dallas), and Helen Clayton Shingler (Atlanta); grandchildren: James Wright Clayton (Washington, D.C.), Kelly Morgan Shingler (Seoul, Korea), John Bunyan Clayton, V (Nashville), James Marshall Shingler (Atlanta), Elliott Fooshee Clayton (Dallas), and Callie McBride Clayton (Dallas). Margaret was adored by her many friends and family members as a vivacious, loving, and generous spirit, who opened her heart to everyone from casual acquaintances to friends of her husband and children to her close-knit circle of friends. She had a genius for making others feel loved. She will be sorely missed. To her four children, Margaret was a loving presence and indomitable strength to whom they could turn for comfort and unwavering love; she supported them in whatever they did, cherished their accomplishments, and sustained them in times of need. To her grandchildren, she was equally loving, a precious source of warmth and good cheer. To her friends, she was a loyal (and voluble) companion, a steadfast ally in the daily vicissitudes and joys of the community in which they lived, went to high school, and raised their children. The funeral will be held on , 23, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, which she attended throughout life. Her father, Marion F. Fooshee and stepmother Peggy Fooshee, were founding members of St. Michael, and her father designed the Chapel in which the service will occur with his architecture firm, Fooshee and Cheek. In lieu of flowers, please celebrate Margarets life with a gift to St. Michaels Meals on Wheels ministry, in which she worked for many years (8011 Douglas, Dallas, Texas 75225). |
