Obituary: Mrs. Betty Jane Clarke, 68, of Spring, TX, passed away unexpectedly on 10, 2010 in The Woodlands, TX. She was born 11, 1942 in Norman, OK to the late Lee and Creola Berryman. Betty will be forever missed by her beloved husband, Marvin R. Clarke; daughters, Terri Roth & husband Albert and Tracie Dillingham & husband Michael; grandchildren, Carley and Danny Roth & Patrick and Liam Dillingham; brothers, James and wife Patricia, William and wife Margaret; and sister, Mary Varghese & husband Abraham along with numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. Betty worked hard all her life and was most recently employed by Leeway Transportation. She attended West Conroe Baptist Church and had a strong belief in her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Obituary: Devane Clarke was born in Ranger, Texas in 1929, grew up in Athens, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. As a Chi Phi, he was selected Alumnus of the year in 1987. serving in the Navy he had an advertising business and then became an accomplished real-estate developer with major projects in several cities, including developing Chandlers Landing Yacht Club at Rockwall where he was the Clubs first Commodore. He served as president of the Texas (and the Dallas) Apartment Association and was appointed by the Governor to the Special Advisory Council on Housing and the Texas Department of Community Affairs. He enjoyed business and was also an avid sportsman. He excelled in sailboat racing, skiing, fly-fishing, scuba diving and tennis. He enjoyed traveling and seeking new adventures with his soul-mate and wife of 33 years, Aggie, and their children Devane Clarke III, Cary Clarke and wife Kama, Susan Wood and husband Clinton, Barron Thomas, David Thomas & Fiancé Christi Ernst , and grandchildren Clarke Wood, William Clarke and Avery Clarke. He is also survived by his devoted sister Jean Holmes of Athens, Texas. A long time member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, he served on several administrative boards and also established the Prayer Room, and wrote a book on Gods Spiritual Universe. He has served on the Board of Bent Tree Country Club as well as president of the Mens Tennis Association. Devane planned to run a marathon and play tennis when he turned 100. But he did not fear death, as he knew God would schedule a big assignment for him someday, which he would take on with a sense of adventure and enthusiasm. He was amazingly energetic and competitive and was a blessing to his many friends. Do not feel your prayers for him were in vain. Assuredly, he felt and he appreciated every one of them. A Memorial Service will be held at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church on 7th at 10:00 am. Obituary: Annibel Gurley Blay Clarke was born on May 23, 1957 in Harper, Maryland , on a afternoon at 2pm. She was born into the union of T. Oliver Blay Sr. and Annie D. Blay. Her early education started at the G.W. Payne kindergarten school. Kindergarten, she enrolled at the Monrovia Demonstration elementary school. Upon graduation from Demonstration, She attended Ricks Institute for two years (7th grade, 8th grade). She later enrolled in The of West Africa High School and graduated from CWA in1976.She attended the University of Liberia, where she received her Bachelors Degree in Economics in 1981. graduation, she was employed at the Agricultural Development Bank of Liberia where she worked for ten years until the civil war. She married her elementary school sweetheart, Stephen D. Clarke Jr, in 1982 at the First United Methodist Church of Liberia. The twelve year union was blessed with two children, Stephanie Daniellette Clarke-Brooks and Stephen Daniel Clarke Jr. Annibel moved to the United States in 1994, where she worked as a Certified Nurses Aide for 18 years. She and her boss, Christian Barthol became really good friends. Here in Texas, she was an active member of the Liberian Community and faithfully attended and hosted events. In 2006, she met her only Grandchild, Isaiah Christopher Lee Brooks. That same year she was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer. The doctors only expected her to live 2 years after the diagnoses, but she fought for 8 years after the diagnoses to see her children graduate from High school and . Annibel was known for her sweet and feisty spirit. She knew how to have a good time and she knew when to step in and shut it down. Annibel loved to cook. She organized family gatherings and cooked for them. She loved to sing. She was an active member of the Junior Choir at the First United Methodist Church. At the University of Liberia, she was an active member of the University of Liberia Chorus under the direction of Agnes Nebo Von Ballmoos. She sang Soprano. She was a strong Soprano who was relied upon many solo parts. she was married, she joined the St. Thomas Episcopal Church where she was also an active member of the choir and other organizations. Annibel leaves to mourn her mother, Annie D. Wilson Blay, three children: Stephanie Clarke-Brooks, Stephen D. Clarke Jr, and Fonatee Michele Blay; grandson, Isaiah Christopher Lee Brooks; five brothers: T. Oliver Blay Jr. (Iris), George W. Blay (Olive), Owen W. Blay, Christopher W. Blay, and James H. Obituary: Clark Johnson died , 17, 2011 in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 86. He was born 10, 1925 in Denison, Texas to Clark and Estelle (Ivie) Johnson. His formal education began in a two room rural school at Muncy, in Floyd , Texas. one year there the family moved back to Sherman, Texas. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1941 and began his college career at Austin in Sherman. one year there he transferred to the University of Texas where he continued his pre-medical studies. In 1943 he joined the U. S. Navy V-12 training program and while this program was active he was enrolled in the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where he received his M. D. Degree in 1948. completing his internship in Denver, Colorado, he spent a year on active duty in the U.S.Navy. This included duty aboard a transport vessel and several months aboard the USS Boxer, an aircraft carrier. At the end of that tour of duty Clark was released to inactive duty. He spent a year in Seattle at Childrens Orthopedic Hospital for experience in pediatric surgery. This was a particularly pleasant year for him, both professionally and personally. The work was stimulating and it was there he first met Dorothy Webb, an attractive young nurse. In 1953 he married the love of his life, Dorothy Webb, and despite being recalled to active duty during the Korean War, they began what would prove to be a remarkably pleasant and happy married life. Clark and Dorothy have now been married 57 years. settled in Sweetwater, Texas, where Clark had an active general and family practice. In 1976 they moved to Lubbock where Clark accepted a position as Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Texas Tech University School of Medicine and became Director of the Family Medicine Residency Training Program at the then new Medical School. He was frequently elected Outstanding Teacher or Family Medicine Mentor by the residents. In 1990 Clark retired after spending forty two years in a very satisfying career in medicine. In 1996 he was appointed Associate Professor Emeritus of the Science . Clark enjoyed teaching and for many years taught a young couples School class. In addition to teaching he enjoyed fly fishing and fly tying, genealogy, pampering two pecan trees, and was an avid reader, particularly of western Americana. He was a member of Westmont Christian Church and for more than seventy years he had been a member of some Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years and their children and spouses: Craig A. and Nancy Johnson of Sweetwater, Texas; Mary and Steve Moore of El Paso, Texas; and Bruce and Madonna Johnson of Austin, Texas. Also seven grandchildren: Katie, Christopher, and Carly Johnson; Robert, Katie Moore-Cisneros (husband Jacob), Karen Moore; and Kristen Johnson. He has one great-grandson, Efren Cisneros. Additional survivors include two sisters: Mary Waldrop of Tyler, Texas; Doris Cook of Arlington, Texas; and a half brother, Bill Johnson and wife Juanita of Katy, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at Westmont Christian Church on , Jan. 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM with visitation following the service. Memorials may be made to Westmont, Vistacare Hospice, or a charity of your choice. |
