Obituary: Lt. Col. Ray M. Clapp, USAF Retired, passed away 22, 2014. He was 95. Ray was born in Dawson, Texas, 8, 1918 to Joe and Hattie Steward Clapp. He graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1937 where he lettered in basketball and was an outstanding baseball player. Following graduation, he attended Trinity University. At that time, Trinity University was still in Waxahachie. While attending Trinity, Ray learned to fly, acquiring his private and commercial pilots licenses in 1941 at Love Field in Dallas. World War II interrupted college and his civilian aviation career and, in 1942, Ray joined the Army Air Corp. Because he was already a commercial pilot, he received a direct commission as a 2nd Lt. and was immediately assigned pilots duties. During World War II, he served with distinction in the African and European theaters of the war, receiving numerous awards and citations. When the Korean War broke out he was with the 374th Troop Carrier Group, the first Air Force unit to enter action there. He was called upon to immediately begin supply missions to Republic of Korea troops and to evacuate civilians. Throughout the summer of 1950, he flew missions under constant enemy fire in the air and on the ground, without the benefit of fighter cover. Following the summer of 1950, he continued flying missions in Korea, frequently flying in mountainous terrain without the benefit of radio navigation aids, and at times, landing under fire on beaches, frozen lakes or river beds at night. For his efforts, among other awards, he received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Following the Korean War, Ray continued as a career Air Force Officer. It was during this period, while stationed at Dover AFB, he met his beloved wife of 56 years, Joan Kennedy Clapp of New Haven, Ct. retiring from the Air Force in 1963, Ray and Joan settled in San Antonio, Texas. There, Ray completed his bachelors degree in math and physics from Trinity University and began a teaching career. He taught math at Alamo Heights High School from 1963 to 1979. Ray was preceded in death by his brother Joe M. Clapp, his daughter Carol Clapp Drought, and his grandson, Brett W. Bratcher, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Kennedy Clapp; his daughters, Brenda Butler and Donna Dove; his son Ray M. Clapp, Jr. and wife, Marianne; and his son-in-law, Gerald T. Drought. He also leaves behind his granddaughters, Cathy Desoto, Tiffin Dove, Amy Dove, Christa Connor, Rachell Dove, Rory Doyle and his grandsons, Gerald T. Drought, Jr., Ray M. Clapp, III and Benjamin C. Obituary: Bonnie Jean Clapp passed away on 3rd 2014, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. a 9 year battle with cancer, her mortal coil finally succumbed and allowed her to reunite with her beloved husband, Don and her Savior, Jesus Christ. Bonnie graduated from Bloomington High School in Minnesota and proceeded on to California Lutheran Bible School, where she met her husband, Don Clapp. She and Don had 4 children, during which time they lived in Minnesota and California. moved back to Wisconsin in the early 70's, where Don attended college. Then, in 1985, they moved back to southern California, where she was employed as a teacher at Santa Clarita Christian School. She and Don moved to Arizona in 2003, where they enjoyed the sunset of their lives until Don passed away in 2013. Bonnie then moved to Dallas, Texas where she was enveloped with the love of her daughters and grandchildren until the day of her passing. She is preceded in death by her husband Don, and father Leonard Frydenlund. She is survived by her mother lle Frydenlund, three sisters - Nancy and Gregg Pfister, Rainey and Russell Stephens, and Joanne and Chuck Elliott and her four children, Don and Rebekah Clapp, Christine and Glen Quintana, Len and Holly Clapp, and Debbie and Kevin Harris. She leaves behind her most precious grandchildren: Glen Jr., Tony, Tyler, Maegan, Noelle, Zachary, Liam, Stephen, Isabella, and Elijah and many more extended family members. Bonnie was known for her true love of others, sharing all the joy, laughter, prayers, and tears as if they were her own. She always received the greatest joy by being able to bless others in any way, always downplaying any part that she had in your happiness. Bonnie lived for her family, but also loved the times spent with her friends in California, Arizona, and Texas. She loved adventure and long after she was able to, would live vicariously through the adventures of her children and grandchildren. She loved shopping, always looking for that deal - whether at Chico's or a yard sale - Bonnie was in her element. She enjoyed attending church, antiquing, reading, movies, and lunching with her friends. Above all, she relished the time spent with her grandchildren! She was the consummate Grandma and was deeply loved by all ten of them. Even though she would downplay it, she was truly a Proverbs 31 woman....
