Obituary: Gertrude Barbara Wotipka Christian, 102 passed away 18, 2014. Gertrude was born in Flatonia, Texas, on 7, 1911, to Roman Frank and Mathilda Bittner Wotipka. She graduated from Flatonia High School and from Draughns Business , in San Antonio, Texas. She married William Alfred Christian on 30, 1936, in San Antonio, where they lived until moving to Corpus Christi in 1942. In 1978, she and Bill retired to San Antonio. Gertrude was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court 246. Gertrude is survived by two daughters, Barbara Sue Christian Chumney, of San Antonio and Mildred Ann Christian Elam of Flatonia. She is survived by five grandchildren: India Chumney Hancock and husband, Lawrence Bradley Hancock, of Seabrook, Texas; William Christian Chumney and wife, Amy Sue Lueders Chumney, of Port St. Lucie, Flordia; David Christian Elam and wife, Lisa Lindsey Elam, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Theresa Christine Elam Piersall and husband, Jay Gary Piersall of Austin, Texas and Elizabeth Maureen Elam of Austin, Texas; 10 great-grandchildren: Katherine Adair, Laurence Bradley, Jr., Robert Earl and Elizabeth DaCamera Hancock; Logan Graham, Christian Cade, and India Katherine Chumney; Richard William, Sarah Elizabeth, and David Elliott Piersall; one nephew, William Edward and wife, Joy Alsbury Christilles, of San Antonio; also great, great-great nieces, nephews and cousins. Obituary: a brave 16-year battle with metastatic breast cancer, Georgia Marie Christian passed away on 28, 2011, having recently celebrated her 67th birthday. Mrs. Christian was born 4, 1944, to W.T. and Josephine Strahan Wells, in Houston, Texas. She lived in Nacogdoches for many years where she first owned the Country Kitchen Café, then managed the Kroger Deli, owned Central Heights Flower Shop, and later worked at Butcher Boys. living in Nacogdoches for more than 25 years, she moved to Palestine in 2002. Mrs. Christian is survived by her husband of 38 years, Charles M. Christian of Palestine, formerly of Nacogdoches; and her children, Richard Ray and Roxie Little of Hudson, Robert Scott and Melissa Little of Nacogdoches, Gary Joe and Jody Little of Nacogdoches, Tammy and Roy Johnson of Jacksonville, Charla and Chris Felder of Moscow, and Steven Wayne Little of Beaumont. Surviving grandchildren include Brenna Little, Ashley Little, Mark Little, Jacey Gaddy, Cohl Felder, Carter Felder, Kaylie Goodwin, Sarah Barbey, Rachel Barbey, Danny Little, Jacki Johnson, and Jody Beason. She also leaves several siblings, including two brothers, Thomas and Helen Wells of Nacogdoches and Leo and Norma Wells of Magnolia; two half-brothers, Travis and Willis Wells; and a half-sister, Gerri Merrill. Additionally, Mrs. Christian is survived by her mother-in-law, Dell Barnhill, who has been her faithful and loving caregiver for many years. Aunts include Tommie Stanaland, Betty Vanover, Lottie Gardner, and Lucy Hinkle. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins are also left behind. She was preceded in death by her mother, Josephine Proffitt, her step-father, C.B. Proffitt; her father, W.T. Wells; sister, Judy Wells; and two sons, Mark Allen Christian in 1990 and James Jimbo Little in 2002. Visitation will be held , 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Directors, 5400 North St., Nacogdoches. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. , May 1, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. Obituary: Frank P. Christian, a San Antonio attorney once acclaimed he citys favorite musical star, died 5, 2012. He was 84. Possessed of a resonant baritone voice and with a dramatic stage presence, his appearances in major roles such as Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha guaranteed a box office success. Dan Goddard, drama critic for the San Antonio Express News, reported, Frank Christian, the citys favorite musical star, has all the charisma to make him the perfect Zorba.a towering presence in a role that also allows him to display the full range of his tremendous acting talents. Jasmina Wellinghoff, for the then San Antonio Light, noted, San Antonios reigning baritone Frank Christian returns to the stage next weekend.He is our best all-around male performer. Years later, when he no longer performed theatrical roles, he created a one man show, Favorites From the Broadway Stage and sang recitals well into his eighties. Despite his popularity in musical theater, Christian was also drawn to the dramatic stage, performing leading roles in the plays of Eugene ONeill, Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams and G. B. Shaw. Byrd Bonner, for the North San Antonio Times, reflecting back on several seasons of theatre, wrote that Christians performance in Millers All My Sons, emains for me one of the most powerful and impressive performances by a dramatic actor on a local stage. Frank P. Christian III was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, the only child of the former Mary Burnley Wilson and Frank P. Christian, Jr. As a young man, he worked as a merchant seaman and saw much of northern Europe and the Caribbean. He attended a school year at the National University in Mexico City, graduated from the University of Virginia and began his law studies at that university. Christian spoke three foreign languages, including Russian. During the Korean War, and after one year of rigorous training at the Army Language School in Monterey, California, he came to San Antonio as a Russian language translator. Christian met Harriet Prescott Edmunds, also a Virginian, in 1952 and the couple were married the following year. Together they raised six splendid children: Three boys and three girls. Several years into their marriage, he moved his family to Rome and eventually to Madrid. Upon their return, he opened a law office and was active in the legal profession until his retirement in 1985. Frank Christians roots ran deep in the state of Virginia. His earliest immigrant ancestors, Christopher and Mary Branch, arrived in Jamestown on The London Merchant in the early months of 1620. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia and the Order of First Families of Virginia. Locally, he was a member of The Argyle and a managing trustee of the Russell Hill Rogers Fund for the Arts. Chief among his many interests were a love of Latin and ballroom dancing, at which he and his wife excelled, weekly trips to their historic house at Fort Clark in Brackettville and the care and companionship of his two standard poodles. Survivors include his wife and six children: Mara Christian Harris of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Alicia Carrington Christian of San Antonio, Prescott Carrington Christian and wife Marilyn and daughters Hannah, Megan and Sarah, Anthony Navarro Christian, his wife Maureen and son Ryan, Pamela Dearing Christian and Benjamin Blackwell Christian and his wife Eloise and twin daughters, Hattie and Eliza, all of Austin. Memorials may be made in his name to the San Antonio Humane Society, 4804 Fredericksburg Road, San Antonio, TX 78229, the Animal Defense League, 11300 Nacogdoches, San Antonio, TX 78217 or a charity of your choice.
