Obituary: Cleo Elizabeth McKinney Cearley Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also, and he praises her. Proverbs 31:28 In the early hours of 8, the angels and numerous loved ones rejoiced as they welcomed Cleo Elizabeth McKinney Cearley. She peacefully fell asleep here on Earth and awoke in the arms of her Lord and Savior. God graciously blessed Blanche and W.H. McKinney with six children, the youngest of whom was Cleo. She was born on the family homestead in Des Moines, New Mexico, on 30, 1922. In 1925, the McKinneys moved to Rogers, Arkansas, which Cleo proudly referred to as home for the rest of her life. Cleo grew up working hard at school, at home, and in her community. She attended Rogers High School, where she was an excellent student and sang alto in the glee club. her graduation in 1940, she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to enroll in beauty school. As a licensed beautician, she worked in Oklahoma, California, and Texas. While living in Tulsa, Cleo met Earl A. Cearley in 1946, and they married on 21 of that year. Cleo and Earl welcomed their first child, Lawrence Earl, on 28, 1948. The young family soon moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma, where daughter Gwena Lynn was born on 22, 1951. The Cearleys later moved to Falls Church, Virginia; Westmont, Illinois; and finally Austin. An accomplished, self-taught seamstress, Cleo sewed profusely for others, usually without benefit of a pattern. Through the years, no sewing project was too difficult for her-from wedding dresses and doll clothes to home furnishings and boat covers. She loved to travel with her family and was proud to have visited all 50 states. She was known for helping others in countless ways, and she ardently supported her childrens and grandchildrens activities while also serving faithfully in her church. The joy of Cleos life was always her family, who benefited richly from her love, time, and talents. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and we will cherish her legacy and memory always. Cleo is survived by daughter Gwena Cearley; granddaughter Lynnae Kucera, her husband Joe, and their son Caleb (Cleos only great-grandchild); brother Warren McKinney and his wife Barbara; nephews Bill Rossworn, Jerry Rossworn, Bob McKinney, Lyle McKinney, and Kevin McKinney; nieces Norma Easterling and Trena Wilson; and many great-nephews and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Earl; son Larry; granddaughter Shannon Kennedy; her parents; brothers Kenneth and Denzil McKinney; sisters Edna Lorraine McKinney and Murna Parnell; and nephew Donnie McKinney. Special thanks to the staff and residents of Heartland for the love, care, support, and friendship they showed not only to Cleo, but also to the family. Many thanks also to members of Crestview United Methodist Church for their outreach and ministry through the years. The family will receive friends at Cook-Walden , located at 6100 North Lamar, on , 11, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Dr. Mark Cotnam will preside over a celebration of Cleos life at Cook-Walden on , 12, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Mausoleum in Pflugerville. Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all. Proverbs 31:29 under the direction of Cook-Walden , Austin, TX. |
