Obituary: Dear Family and Friends of Terry Carter: Due to the significant amount of rain last night in New Braunfels, Terry Carters venue for her Visitation and Rosary will be moved to Sunset , 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. Same date and time; , May 1st, Visitation at 5 PM with the reciting of the Rosary at 6 PM. Wayne Carter Teresa (Terry) Katherine Thompson Carter, wife of Wayne Carter, is leading the way to life everlasting for her family and friends. Terry took one last look at her faithful husband, Wayne Carter, and breathed her last on the evening of 18, 2016. Her friends and family in Heaven, or first, Purgatory, gained another soul. If she did go to Purgatory, her prayers are surely helping other horse addicts gain their eternal life. All who knew her knew horses were her first love, and this made the world a better place. Terry was born and raised in her beloved city of San Antonio on 10, 1944. She attended St. Josephs, St. Anns and St. Pauls grammar schools and Providence High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and English at St. Marys University and a Master of Arts in Reading at UTSA. Terry was not one to sit on the sidelines. She centered her life on four pillars-horses, history, community and education. Terry followed her lifelong passion for horses as a board member of the San Antonio Saddle Horse Association and was instrumental in reviving the SASHA Charity Horse Show in 2001. Terry was a proud Texan. She was an active member of the San Antonio Conversation Society. She gave countless tours of historical missions and buildings. It was so important to her to preserve their integrity that she bent gender identities before it was vogue to do so. The parish men's club of St. Peter Catholic Church in Boerne asked her to become a member so she could assist in their preservation initiative. This issue went to the US Supreme Court for land use and zoning disputes as a landmark case. Like most Texans, she valued independence and fought for it. In the late 1990s the residents of Castle Hills were faced with losing the character of their neighborhood. Terry served as president of a neighborhood political action group, and under Terry's guidance the neighborhood was successful in maintaining the charm of Castle Hills. She and her husband raised their three children, Cameron Carter, Shannon Helmi, and Tracy Land at Fiesta/NIOSA (Night in Old San Antonio), dog shows, horse shows, and all their sporting events. Terry catechized her children with reruns of The Little Rascals and The Blues Brothers. 're all still practicing Catholics. "Moxie" or "Mopsie" as she was known to ten grandchildren lived up to her name. Their time together was affectionately known as "Camp Carter", where the grandkids would spend summers reading old The New Yorker magazines, seeing her quotes pinned everywhere, swim in the backyard, shop at Dollar Tree, or learn how to hunt squirrels. Some of her favorite quotes included: "My treasures do not clink together or glitter; they gleam in the sun and go neigh in the night", "Of all the things I have to accept in life, I pray silently that God will never let me know the last time I ride a horse, and "All a gal needs is a little black dress and a big fancy horse". It didn't take a little black dress (or the sunglasses she wore to class) to turn Wayne's head when he saw Terry for the first time over 50 years ago in a college history class. Terry said yes when he asked her to a fraternity New Year's Eve party, and the party never stopped for them. Their passion was evident in recent months as Wayne was her sole caregiver during the cancer battles. slow danced and flirted through it all. recounted many fun nights that helped her through the most difficult times. It was a most beautiful and tender love to witness. Moxie was a fighter till the end. Her strength, spirit, and wit will be missed. Please offer a prayer for her and her family. Then find a good song and dance to it till your feet hurt. She suggests "Every Praise (to my God)". The family wishes to thank all of the medical staff for their loving care at the START Cancer , CIMA Hospice especially Nurse Heather, Nurses Aide Laura and Deacon Joe, three special caregiver angels: Lina, Ana, and Maria and most of all Terrys Chemo Buddy, Karen Narvarte. Outdoor Visitation and Rosary will be held on , May 1st at 5 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 6 PM at the Jerry Diaz Ranch, 685 Three Mile Creek Road, New Braunfels, TX 78130. Inclement weather location for Visitation and Rosary will be held at the Sunset , 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. Mass will be offered on , May 2nd at 10 AM at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 700 Dewhurst Road, San Antonio, TX 78213. Interment will follow at the Fort Sam Houston National . Reception will follow at Crumpets Restaurant & Bakery, 3920 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78209.
