Obituary: James Leonard Carson, 86, passed away , 21 at Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. , 2, at Memorial Chapel in 1515 South Avenue in Bryan. James was born 23, 1930 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky the son of Leonard Evan and Effie Withers (McClary) Carson. As a child that was not supposed to have lived because he had a severe congenital heart problem, he flourished because he was surrounded by the love of all of his family in Kentucky. Jim rode his horse around the family farm since he unable to walk as a child due to his heart condition. His education began in a one room schoolhouse with children of all ages. Growing up during the Great Depression was hard, but his family was close and supported each other during the difficult times. Jim learned generosity by the example of his parents and surrounding community who did not hesitate to help others in need. The Lord dealt him a hand with only a pair of twos, but Jim, through his indomitable spirit, was able to play with that hand and made his life a success in spite of numerous health problems. One of Jim's favorite quotes was "Don't be afraid to try something because, even if you fail, you will have learned something from the experience.". Jim always said that a rose, as beautiful as it is, will be a weed if it is in the wrong place or it is not wanted. That meant "Be a blessing to others, not a weed". Jim had a sharp wit and a gregarious personality which served him well in his relationships with others. He graduated from the University of Kentucky and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Jim proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force in the Atomic Energy Research Department in New Mexico. While working on his post graduate work in Plant Pathology and Agronomy, he was hired to continue his research in Venezuela, where he fell in love with the country and a very special lady. Jim primarily worked with all areas of tobacco growing which allowed him the privilege of travelling extensively and living throughout Mexico, Central America, and South America. He was a man that knew how to live life and his adventurous risk taking spirit enabled him to have adventures that the average man could not conceive. He loved to tell of his real life experiences which sounded unbelievable, entertaining his children, grandchildren, and all those around him. retiring from Cigarrera La Moderna in Monterrey, Mexico, he and his longtime friend and brother in law, Charles E. Meacham created a very productive business of vegetable transplants in the Rio Grande Valley. Jim served as president of the Texas Vegetable Association and was a member of the Lions Club in South Texas. James is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marta Carson and his loving family: Kitty Milton (sister); Martita and Tom Swanner; Lee and Marita Carson; Mary Meacham and Ronny; Charles Meacham and Lisa; Thomas Swanner and Courtney; Jackie Diaz and Ted; Jenn Dudley and Darrin; Marta LaFaver and Stephen; Chris Carson; Kaye Layne and Mark; Mac Milton and Julia; and his beautiful great grandchildren: Thomas Swanner; Alexander Swanner and Brynlee Dudley. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the nursing staff of Hospice Brazos Valley, Dr. Higginbotham, Dr. Elizabeth Suarez, Father Edwin Kagoo, Chaplain Gary Roe, Sonja, Pearl, Tiffany, Chela, and Sam for all of love and care they gave to James. Thank you to all his friends and close relatives for their prayers, support, and love they showed him throughout the years. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 W 26th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803. |

Obituary: George Wesley “Kit” Carson Born 14, 1931 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma and went to Heaven on 24, 2015. George was born and raised in the small Oklahoma town, Rush Springs, nicknamed the Watermelon Capital of the World. His maternal grandparents also lived there and owned a feed store where he hung out as a kid and then began helping with as a teen. As a young boy he told of delivering items to customers’ homes in a red wagon. He graduated Salutatorian from Rush Springs High School. He moved to Galveston to live with family and got a job in a ladies shoe store where he eventually met his bride to be Jo Ann. married at 19 years old and soon George joined the Navy. He served in the Korean War for 4 years and 3 days, as he liked to point out. During this time, their first daughter was born, Georgia Ann. lived in Houston then moved to Chickasha, OK, where the second daughter Carol was born. By the time Joel was born, they were living in Conroe, TX. Brenda was the last daughter, born in Pasadena, TX where they lived for many years before moving to Dallas in 1969 . George went to night school for eight years at the University of Houston and graduated with a BBA in Management in 1963. The kids remember loading up in their station wagon to go and pick up their Dad in their PJ’s. He was a hardworking man, employed 33 years in the wholesale lumber and saw mill business as lumber salesman. What George’s children appreciate most about their Dad is that he and their Mom took them to church every time the church doors were open to introduce and grow them in the knowledge of the most important thing in their lives, Jesus Christ. George was a deacon in the church and loved to sing in the choir and lead the music wherever needed. He loved his decades of study with Bible Study Fellowship. The children all remember waking every and mornings to Dad playing his gospel albums…kind of loud too! This is now a treasured memory. He was a proud member of the DFW Chapter of the Korean War Veterans. George loved to build things with wood. Over the years he built furniture, carports, patio decks, fences and patio covers. He not only built for himself and Jo Ann, but for all the kids and anyone else that needed his help. He loved to serve others with his talents in woodworking. Vacations in the Carson home were simple and mainly involved taking the children to see the grandparents either in Oklahoma or at “Grandma’s lake house” near Bryan. Or they went camping. One time they all went to Six Flags and the kids voted that the best vacation! We were poor by the world’s standards, but we never knew it! Jo Ann sewed all the children’s clothes and rarely ate out at restaurants, but had the best, HOME Cooking! George loved to cook too, making his famous, hand-scraped chili pod chili with pinto beans. George LOVED his children and later his ten grandchildren. Today he has seven great-grandchildren, plus one on the way! Whenever he saw his family, his face would totally light up with joy and excitement. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to either: bound Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Dallas 1707 San Jacinto Street Dallas, TX 75201 or Heart to Heart Hospice (for their loving care during the past three years) 5608 Malvey Ave., Ste. 200 Fort Worth, TX 76107 |
