Obituary: Celebration of life services for Mary L. Farrar Carr will be held on , 1st from 5-8pm for visitation at Cashner's , Conroe, Texas. service , 2nd at 10am First Christian Church of Conroe, 3500 North Loop 336 West Conroe, Texas 77304. Interment will be held , 2nd at 1pm at the Houston National where she will be with Julian together forever. Mary was born on 28, 1920 in Live Oak, Texas. She went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2017, at the age of 96. Mary, lovingly known as "Mamaw", lived a full and exciting life throughout these nine decades. growing up on a ranch and graduating from Eden High School in 1937, she left to find her place in the world. She traveled to Stephenville, Texas to attend John Tarleton to study nursing. In 1939, being an independent woman during prewar times, a job opportunity opened at Shell Oil in Houston, so she packed up and headed to the city where she worked as a lab technician while attending college at night. Just before the Pearl Harbor attacks in 1941, opportunity knocked again at Ellington Air Force Base needing civilian workers to repair airplanes from different countries for the U.S. Army Air Corp. When WWII began, she was one of the great women we know as "Rosie the Riveter" and a machinist working on B25 Bomber airplanes to help with the cause. Mary was promoted to supervisor of maintenance and repairs until wars end, at which point she met the love of her life, Major Julian M. Carr, a pilot for U.S. Army Air Corp 388th Bomber Group. were married on 30, 1944. started their life together in San Angelo, Texas where Julian trained pilots and Mary worked at the M System for 2 years. During this time their daughter, Barbara was born. When the jobs ended in 1947, they decided to move to Evant, Texas to run a ranch. Life on the ranch during the seven year drought was extremely difficult. had to become very resourceful until opportunities became available to improve their situation. In 1953, Mary and her family moved to Hondo, Texas where Julian was a civilian pilot teaching Air Force graduates to fly fighter planes for the impending Korean War. Mary was active in the various Officers Wives organizations to support the social aspects at the Air Force Base. Here is where she found her love for golf, playing on the Air Force Base golf course as often as possible. Alvin, Texas called for Julian to become a private pilot at Cruse Aviation in 1956. Mary continued her passion for golf meeting her lifelong friends and foursome, who dominated the Women's Golf circuit playing many courses around the state. In 1959, then mayor of Conroe, Bill Newton hired Julian as his personal pilot. Mary and daughter traveled to the piney woods of Conroe where they would settle and call it home. Mary worked as executive secretary at Sparkler Manufacturing for five years. Then she was asked to work as secretary and advertising executive for Schindler-Cummings Real Estate. five years, Sue Luce needed Mary's expertise and charismatic personality to grow her new Real Estate agency. Together these two women pioneered the way for opportunities for females in an industry predominantly run by men. Mary then decided to retire from the professional world and dedicate herself to her growing family, friends, gardening and love of golf! With all her energy and love for life, golf was something she loved sharing with Julian, her daughter Barbara, who was often her partner, and many dear family and friends. Dancing was another passion that Mary and Julian took advantage of every chance they had. If Big Band was playing, they were dancing, entered and won several dance contests in the early years. Mary's pride and joy was her daughter, grand daughters and great grandchildren. She could be seen at every activity, event, competition and performance over the years cheering and beaming with joy. Mary was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who filled them with an abundance of love through her words, actions and amazing cooking. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, her husband, Major Julian M. Carr and her son in law, Gerald L. Hasara. She is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara Carr Hasara, granddaughters, Denise Hasara Carroll and husband Bobby Carroll, Sheri Hasara Cantu and husband Johnny Cantu, great-grandchildren Cory Cantu, Emily Carroll, Courtney Cantu, Mary Carroll, and Claire Cantu. Numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends also survive. Pallbearers will be Johnny Cantu, Cory Cantu, Bobby Carroll, Roy Tiemann, Robert Tiemann, and Pete Donahue.
