Obituary: James Malcolm Carnes passed away after a lengthy illness on 17, 2014. He was born 9, 1927 in San Antonio to Webb M. and Zora Henson Carnes. The youngest of three sons, he attended Jefferson High School and the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. a short stint in the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII, he returned to UT to finish his business degree. At his eldest brothers wedding in Houston he met Lucille Kemp, a friend of the bride. He and Lucille married in of 1951 and had two daughters, Cecille Carnes Daniel of Wichita Falls and Nancy Carnes Ives of Denver and San Antonio. Lucilles death in 1994 Jim later married Louise Leftwich of Lubbock and San Antonio. Jim dedicated his working life to the automobile business. He was COO and co-owner of several local dealerships as well as a Subaru distributorship covering five states. In 1971 he received the Time Magazine Quality Dealer award, and he served on the board of the Texas Automobile Dealer Association. Jim remained actively involved in business until his retirement in 2007. Jims three passions were his family, his familys history in Texas, and the outdoors including sports. In his view, his lifes purpose was to take care of his family which he did until the day he died. He provided for his mother, who lived to be 108, two wives and two daughters, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid bird and deer hunter and loved salt water fishing on the Texas coast. He had fond memories of camping with his brothers and father and staying with an uncle who was the sheriff of Wilson and whose home was below the Floresville jail. As a child, he especially enjoyed popping fireworks on any possible occasion, and as an adult he gleefully provided supervised fireworks for his daughters, nieces, nephews and friends children. He also relished hearing and retelling the adventures of uncles and great uncles who served in the Texas Rangers and law enforcement in south Texas. Golfing with a group of special buddies provided hours of fellowship, both on the links and afterwards in the mens grill at his club. Longhorn football and a grandsons college football exploits provided much pleasure. In later years his dog Choco was a much loved companion. Jim served on the boards of the Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital, Morningside Ministries, Boysville San Antonio, the Kidney Association of San Antonio and the Kiwanis Club. He was active at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church until Lucilles illness and served as chairman of the capital campaign for the current facility. Memberships included San Antonio Country Club, The Argyle, Club Giraud, the Revelers and the Town Club. Surviving relatives are his brothers Webb M. Carnes Jr. of Houston, Richard Cole Carnes (Eleanor) of San Antonio, daughters Cecille Carnes Daniel (Bill) and Nancy Carnes Ives (Chris), step children Julie Lawson, Howard Lawson (Nancy), and the late Linda Burnett (Bill). Grandchildren include James W. Daniel (Colleen), Robert F. Daniel (Lindsey), Clark L. Daniel, Mark J.
