Obituary: Oleta Jynelle Byrd Caffey (1930-2015) Oleta Jynelle Byrd Caffey, age 85, of Gun Barrel City, Texas promoted from her earthly home into our Heavenly Father's healing arms on , 11, 2015 in the Kaufman Presbyterian Hospital. Mrs Caffey graduated from Big Sandy High School in 1947. She went to Tyler Business school and graduated in 1948. She married Billy Caffey on 23, 1949. Mrs Caffey retired 3, 1995 from the federal government with 32 years, 7 months, and 4 days. During her career she worked for CSC, USDA and EPA. she retired she became very active in the Cedar Creek Lake Root Seekers, Cedar Creek Lake Garden Club, Cedar Creek Women's Club, and the Literary Club of Cedar Creek Lake. In these clubs she held several different offices. She was also a member of the Cedar Creek Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 5-14 for over 20 years and held several offices there. Mrs Caffey was a member of the Confederate Rose Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Sarah Maples Chapter. Mrs. Caffey had a great love for Genealogy. She spent many hours doing research and visiting relatives across the country. Mrs. Caffey was born on 2, 1930 in Big Spring, Texas, the daughter of parents Willie Aaron and Bertha Dodson Byrd, both deceased. Mrs. Caffey was the widow of the late Billy Gene Caffey and was also preceded in death by her son Ricky Maurice Caffey, brothers Joe Bruce Byrd, Dell Roy Byrd, and William Arnold Byrd. She is survived by her sons; Derris Wade Caffey and wife, Jean of DeSoto Texas; Kenneth Ray Caffey and wife, Pam of Kaufman Texas; grandsons Brandon Caffey and Rodney Caffey; grand daughters, Tracy Parker, Whitney Tijerina, Emily Alvarado, Kelly Caffey, Lori Torres, 9 great grand children, her aunt Dortha Willis, sisters-in-law Judy Byrd and Bobbie Buck, and numerous nieces and nephews. |

Obituary: Delbert Alton Caffey completed his earthly journey on Sept. 21, 2014, surrounded by family and friends. He was the last of seven children born to Daulton C. and Mable Burke Caffey on Oct. 8, 1930, on a farm in Runnels between Ballinger and Crews. service will be 1 p.m. , Sept. 24, 2014, in Johnson's chapel with Bro. Jim Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount . At age three his family moved to a farm between Rowena and Lowake, Texas, where he attended rural schools at Gruenwald and Sweet . He started high school in Ballinger and his last year was at San Angelo High, graduating in 1948. He spent a year as a ranch hand, then, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950. While in the military he served in Korea with the 319th Fighter Squadron. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended San Angelo and Howard Jr. . In of 1955, he married Georgia Lea Garner and they had 54-plus years together. His career included employment at Goodfellow AFB, Webb AFB in Big Spring and in 1961 he began his career with the US Army Corps of Engineers, serving at O.C. Fisher Lake, Proctor Lake, Hords Creek Lake, and Canyon Lake. He was Lake Manager of O.C. Fisher Lake for 20 years, and retired in 1986. In 1988, he was elected Commissioner of Precinct 3, and served in that capacity for eight years. During his employment, he and Georgia and their two daughters, Debra and Charla, lived in Big Spring, Dublin, Coleman, New Braunfels and San Angelo, Texas. He loved being outdoors and spent many enjoyable hours boating, fishing, golfing, water skiing and camping. He was active in his church where he taught School and served on several committees. He was a member of Downtown Kiwanis Club for several years, serving as president for one year, and was voted Kiwanian of the Year. He also served as Key Club Coordinator and accompanied the Central High Clubbers to Leadership Conferences and State functions. He served on several boards and civic organizations, including the First River Development Committee, Texas Youth Council, Barron Foundation and Museum, Casa's Hope House, Tom Green Historical Commission, and Water Valley ISD School Board. While Lake Manager at O.C. Fisher, he helped secure the lease of the land for the Soccer Fields at O.C. Fisher Dam, the Radio Control landing strip, the lease to ASU at Texas A&M for the management and reserve studies, and the transfer of the Recreation area to Texas Parks System. He was devoted to his family and cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. To them he was known as PaPaw, Pops and Poppy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia; daughter Debra; his parents; four brothers, Curtis and wife Opal, Arlie and wife Dorothy, Hugh and Chester Caffey. Survivors are his daughter, Charla and husband Joe Waren of San Angelo; grandchildren Brian and Mandi Meurer of Euless, Texas, Teri (T.J.) Woodard of San Angelo, Michael and wife Courtney of San Angelo and Melissa and husband Justin of San Angelo; two great-grandsons, Landon and Logan Waren of San Angelo; great-granddaughter Taylar Kinney of San Angelo; sister Camilla Jean Young of Point, Texas; brother and sister-in-law Billy and Ella Caffrey of Andrews, Texas; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Favorite charities are Hillcrest Baptist Church, in San Angelo, Water Valley Baptist Church, in Water Valley, Hill Country Youth Ranch, in Ingram, Texas, and Meals for the Elderly.
