Obituary: Charles Harman Cox, Jr., of Atlanta, passed away on 4, 2015 at the age of 84. He was born in Atlanta, was an eagle scout, attended Boys High, and graduated from GMA in 1948. He attended GA Tech, played on the basketball and tennis teams, and in 1951heentered the USAF in Aviation Cadet Program, where he graduated and received his Commissioning & Silver Wings in Oct of 1952. He was assigned the F-86 Saberjet to Korea, and was in the 51st Fighter-Interceptor Wing, 16th Sq at K-13 Suwon, Korea. In Korea, he flew with John Glenn, Buzz Aldrin, and Sam Johnson. completing his service in the USAF on Oct 25, 1955 he came back to Atlanta, GA; was hired by Delta Air Lines; and had a wonderful flying career for 34 years! He also met the love of his life, Rebecca Ann Adams, on Oct. 25,1955, got engaged to her on Oct 25, 1956, and they married on May 11, 1957. He ans Ann raised their family in Atlanta and were involved in church activities and many social groups. During that time, as ALTA President, he founded The League Play. He also devoted his time to playing tournaments, directing Pro tennis events in Atlanta, and teaching his 3 children to play tennis. He loved the game and realized it truly is a game for a lifetime! He retired from Delta in Sept 1990, and Charles & Ann founded Eagle Rest Ministry in the North GA mountains near Dahlonega. opened their home as the Directors for retreats and Christian counseling, and also enjoyed visits from their 6 grandchildren, especially during Camp MiniPops! He also continued to play tennis tournaments achieving #1 rankings in GA in all age groups between 35-75; and with his son Bud, through Super Senior Father/Son where they won4 National titles! He was an amazing husband, father, Pops, brother, father-in-law, son, friend, pilot, and mentor to us all; and we will miss his humor and sweet smile. He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Rebecca Adams Cox; son: Charles H. Cox,III; daughter: Catherine Cox Zampini and her husband, Ron; son-in-law: Hall F. McKinley;6 Grandchildren: David (Jenny), Paul (Katie), & Elizabeth Zampini, Allison, Hall IV, & Caroline McKinley; and 1 Great Grandchil, Daniel Zampini. He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles Harman Cox Sr. and Grace Boyd Glodsmith Cox; Sister Grace Goldsmith Cox; and daughter Rebecca Cox McKinley. We are very thankful for the love and care that was provided by all the dedicated workers at the Village of Germantown these last several years of Charlies life. To God be the Glory! A visitation and funeral service are set for , Feb 9, 2015 at Peachtree Presbyterian Church Atlanta, Ga. A celebration of Charlies life is set for 12 o'clock noon in the Sanctuary, and the family will receive friends in the Parlor from 10:30 to 11:45 in the morning. Obituary: Age 83, passed away on 16, , 2014. Survived by her husband of 65 years, William A. (Bill) Cox; daughters, Catherine Cox Jones (Ken), and Carole Cox Flansburg (Wayne); grandchildren, Brian Jones (Krista), Mike Jones (Hayley), William Hammock, Lesley Cannon (Justin); great-grandchildren, Riley, Michael, Samuel, Gabrielle, Levi, Malachi, Tyler, Judah, Isaiah, Zion and Tucker Jones; Lainey and Grady Cannon. Mrs. Cox is also survived by siblings: Ruth Johnson, John Ward, Mary Cutrell and Philip Ward. Catherine served as a church organist for 23 years at Two Rivers Baptist Church, 2 years at Alta Loma Baptist Church, 5 years at First Baptist Church, Donelson, and for the past 17 years at Triune Baptist Church. As a member of the Nashville Piano Teachers Guild, Mrs. Cox taught many students for 40 years. She was active in her local church ministry opportunities. Catherine provided music for numerous weddings and funerals and accompanied her husband Bill in revivals, concerts, programs, and on his albums/CD's. The family will receive friends at Woodlawn Roesch Patton on , the 18th of , 2014, from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. A “Celebration of Life Service” will be at Triune Baptist Church located at 8094 Horton Hwy, Arrington, TN 37014, , the 19th of , 2014 at 10:30 AM. Obituary: Carolyn Smith Cox, 83, passed away peacefully at the end of a well-lived life on 4, 2015 in Memphis, Tennessee. Born in Tippah , Mississippi, Carolyn was such a beautiful young lady that she even won a dress worn by the biggest star of the day as first prize in a Shirley Temple look alike contest. Later, she worked with Sears for over thirty years, retiring as a manager. She was a funny and feisty woman who played in a bowling league into her 80s. She is famous in her family for quips that may be unprintable in these pages, but will be remembered always. A fine southern woman, she was a member of the Collierville United Methodist Church. She was a world traveler with favorite stops in Austria, Switzerland and Hawaii. And she never shied from a game of Bingo at Kirby Pines Estates, where she spent her last three years surrounded by books and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Murray Smith and Maud Horton Smith, as well as her husband, Robert Curtis Cox and her two sisters, Elizabeth King and Lucille Drewery. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Phillips (Maury); by her three devoted daughters, Donna Groff-Wheeler (Gary), Melissa Cox Hay (Doug) and Laura Elizabeth Cox; by her grandchildren, Caroline Groff Roberts, Dana Groff III, Ryan Arthur Knop, Courtney Knop Love, Alaina Knop Hale and Lindsay Elizabeth Bryant; and by her great-grandchildren, John Michael Roberts, Hannah Caroline Roberts, Alex Montgomery Groff, Summer Elizabeth Groff, Virgil Lee Love, and Makayla Elizabeth Griffith. The family will receive friends , 7, 2015 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Collierville . services will be held , 8, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Collierville with interment to follow at Magnolia . She was a member of Byrams Fork Baptist Church. She owned and operated Super Kids Learning s of the Knoxville Area and Halls Childrens in Halls Crossroads, TN. She was an inspiration and touched many lives with her piano playing and singing with her family in many churches through the years. She is preceded in death by grandparents, Rev. Beryle W. and Bertha Webber and Eva J. Brewer; sister, Kimberly D. Raines Sharp. Survived by husband, Sammie R. Cox; son, Anthony R. and wife, Rebekah Cox; daughter, Michelle D. (Cox) and husband, Robert Butcher; grandchildren, DeeAnn Womble, Drinnen and wife, Mallory Womble; parents, James D. and Julia Raines; sister, Deborah K. (Raines) and husband, Harold Jones; nephew, Tommy Jones; brother-in-law, Michael R. Sharp; niece, Jennifer J. (Sharp) and husband, Mark Acuff; great-nephew Corbin A.
