She was the kindest, most loving mother and we were truly blessed to call her our mom. She worked at Hoskins Drug Store for over 30 years where she made many friends. Obituary: Mr. Roy Earl Clark, age 89, of Kingsport, TN passed away on 3, 2014 peacefully at his home. Mr. Clark was born on 8, 1925 in Scott , VA, the son of the late Marco and Mary Jane Shaffer Clark. Mr. Clark was a member of the Doran Addition Freewill Baptist Church and prior to his retirement, he was employed as a welder with the Local 538 Pipefitters. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beulah Elizabeth Amos Clark, his second wife, Muriel Marlene Ferbrache Clark, and his third wife, Mary Frances Davenport Clark. Survivors include three sons, Roy Andre Clark, Dr. Mark Earl Clark, and Dr. Guy Delano Clark. Two daughters, Teresa Pier (Randall) Weston and Judy Christine Clark (Frank) Purner. Two step-sons; Mike Lingerfelt and Jody Lingerfelt. One step-daughter, Robin Jones. His brother, James W. Bud Clark. Sister-n-law; Carol Sonny Rhoten. Three grandchildren, Adam Williams, Chris Weston, and Ashley Weston along with six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive. Obituary: Roy C. Clark Nashville TN Roy Clyde Clark, 93, retired United Methodist Bishop, died , May 27, 2014. Visitation is 12:30 pm 4 at West End United Methodist Church; the memorial service follows at 2 pm in the sanctuary. Bishop Clark was born in Mobile AL 24, 1920 to Clyde Columbus Clark and Lelia B Cochran Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Hardy Cochran Clark, wife of 45 years Esther Maddox Clark, daughter Susan McEwen Clark and wife of 18 years Marion Salisbury Clark. He is survived by his daughter Lynn Blanton Clark of Jackson MS, grandchildren Michael McEwen Taylor (Nicole), Andrew Clark Taylor (Jordan) and Meghan Jones Doyle (Wes) and great-grandchildren McEwen Taylor, Gaines Taylor and Olivia Doyle, all of Memphis. Other survivors include his sisters Sarah Bowman of Birmingham and Valda Ratcliffe (Charles) of Spanish Fort AL and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many treasured friends. His family is grateful to caregiver Barbara McGrady for her kindness and friendship over the last several years. A graduate of Millsaps and Yale University Divinity School, Clark received honorary Doctor of Divinity degrees from Millsaps and Columbia (SC) colleges. His first appointment was on the MS Gulf Coast and he served several other pastorates before becoming senior minister of Capitol Street Methodist Church in Jackson in 1953. Ten years later he assumed the senior minister position at St John's UMC in Memphis. In 1967 he became senior minister at West End UMC in Nashville, where he served until his election as a bishop of the United Methodist Church in 1980. He was assigned to the Columbia SC area, from which he retired in 1988. In the 1970s and again in the 1990s, he was a Lecturer in Methodist Studies at Vanderbilt University Divinity School; he served in the same capacity at Memphis Theological School. He was Chair of the founding Board of Directors of the Interfaith Dental Clinic in Nashville and Bishop in Residence at West End UMC. Roy Clark was a gentle, learned man who led a remarkable life of service, devotion, caring, sharing. He was deeply committed to the Church and fully engaged with the flocks he tended. He was tender and compassionate with people from every walk of life. His wise counsel, steady presence and tender mercies sustained friends and colleagues. Obituary: Roy L. Clark of Kingston, Tennessee passed away 14th peacefully in his home. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 6, 1920 to Roy L. Clark and Grace Marley Clark. Following his graduation from the University of Tennessee in 1939, he joined the Tennessee National Guard. During his military service with the Tennessee National Guard and U.S. Army, he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant and received a battlefield commission to 2nd Lieutenant following the invasion of Luzon in the Philippines in early 1945. Upon returning to Tennessee following WWII, he went to work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1946, where he worked until his retirement in 1981. He worked in Physics and Safety. He was one of the first safety experts to arrive at Three Mile Island in 1979 spending 10 days on site during the height of the crisis. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kingston, where he served as a trustee and also many years as the secretary of the junior department. He also served as a member of the Kingston City Council. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling in many leagues and tournaments during his lifetime. He was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life, Virginia Ingram Clark. He is survived by his children, Roy L. Clark III (Lillian) of Tallahassee, FL; Douglas M. Clark, Kingston, TN; Carol Ann Hornstra (Doug), Farragut, TN and Austin I. Clark (Cindy) of Chattanooga, TN; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
