Obituary: William Lacy (Bill) Carter, Jr., age 91 of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died peacefully at his home in Chattanooga on , 25, 2017. He was a member of First Lutheran Church. Born to W. L. Carter, Sr. and Eunice Aline Dettwiller Carter Latura in 1925, Bill grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. He joined the U. S. Navy in 1943 becoming a Lt. Commander of an LST serving in the South Pacific. He served again being called back for the Korean War. Bill started his long career in the beer business in Nashville, Tennessee working for his uncle. Bills first distributorship was in Clarksville, Tennessee and then moved to Chattanooga and purchased Lookout Beer and changed the name to Carter Distributing on Williams Street in 1959. Through his leadership and dedicated work, the company is now the largest beer distributor located in Chattanooga. Carter Distributing has been recognized for its outstanding performance by several suppliers. Bills distributorship received the High Life Achievement Award in 2002. He was honored with the prestigious MillerCoors Legends award in 2011 and his company was nationally awarded the Gold Star Network award from Corona in 2016. In 1970, Bill began his political career and served two terms as a Republican in the Tennessee Legislature. In 1974 he returned to working full time for his family owned distributorship. Bill served an eight year term on the Erlanger Hospital Authority Board starting in 1987. He was a past Tennessee State Director of the National Beer Wholesalers Association and a past President of the Tennessee Malt Beverage Association. Bill was very passionate about the game of golf and served two terms as Chairman of the PGA sanctioned Chattanooga Hamilton Classic. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Juanita Tommie Carter and Jeanne Carter, his sister Shirley Williams and his two daughters, Gayle Carter Simpkins and Lynda Carter Garrett. He is survived by his longtime partner Marie Curle; sons, Bill Carter (Patti) and Blair Carter (Jan); grandchildren, Alyssa Vestal (Mark), Carter Garrett (Julie), Angie Oliver (Mark), Jessica Lee (Michael), Sarah Farington (Josh), Lacy Schmitt (Josh), Chase Carter (Devon), and Morgan Carter; and 13 great-grandchildren. services will be held , 31, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Gilbert H. Pingel officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Private interment with military honors will be at Chattanooga National . Obituary: William Allen Carter, 36, resident of Thomas Avenue, died , 22, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical . services will be conducted at 6:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols with Dan Caruso and John Saunders officiating. The family will visit with friends from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and from 4:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be held at later date in Beech Hill . He enjoyed playing on the play station, baseball, and basketball. His greatest joy was spending time with fiancée and children. Mr. Carter was a member of the Church of Christ. Obituary: William Lloyd Carter, age 95, of Clinton, passed away 30, 2015. Lloyd was reared on his Grandfathers apple farm in Greenfield, VA, & obtained an early education in a one room church-schoolhouse. Teenage years were spent in Covington, VA. The maternal side of his family is from Newfoundland. Lloyd attended Georgia Tech & University of Texas for undergraduate & graduate degrees in Chemical Engineering. He met his wife, Elizabeth, in Port Arthur, TX and they moved to Atlanta where he obtained the first Ph.D from Georgia Tech in 1950. Elizabeth was awarded the honorary degree of Mistress of Patience in Husband Engineering. Lloyd & Elizabeth moved to Oak Ridge & Clinton to work at X-10, Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1950. He graduated from the Reactor Technology School in 1957 and retired after 35 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Oak Ridge United Church, Chapel on the Hill. Lloyd was a dedicated Husband & Father to his family who enjoyed bowling & coaching Little League baseball with his sons; even creating a home garage batting cage. Other hobbies included crossword puzzles, travel, lighthouses and excellent penmanship. He is preceded in death by parents John & Agnes Carter; son, Kent Carter; brothers, Ralph & Pat Carter. He is survived by wife, Elizabeth Plummer Carter; son, Vance Carter; grandchildren Sarah Elizabeth & Aden Carter. Very special thanks to caregivers Sandy Foster, who was like a daughter, Whis Harber, Larry Harber, David Whaley & the Clinton Fire Department for the loving attention given to Lloyd & his family. A Celebration of Life Service & Reception will be held at the Oak Ridge United Church, Chapel on the Hill at 1:00 pm on , 3rd.
