Obituary: Violet Marguerette Cates, formerly Violet Helms peacefully passed away on 22, 2010. She was born in Meeker, Oklahoma on 18, 1925 to Uel and Hazel Parks. She was a loving wife to Carl Helms until his death in 1982 and beginning in 1985 enjoyed a wonderful live with Burrell Cates until his death in 2000. Violet was a nurturing, supportive and wonderful mother and grandmother and was always there for her family. She was an avid gardener, an exceptional oil painter, and an amazing cook who enjoyed being with her family and friends. She lived in Midwest City, Oklahoma for most of her adult life and was a member of the First Christian Church of Midwest City for over 45 years. She was also very involved in Eastern Star for over 40 years, and the National Association of Federal Retired Persons organization for 30 years.Violet was a member of The Sovereign Amonsoquath Tribe of Cherokee and a member of the Parks Family National Society which includes ancestors that fought in the Revolutionary War. She is survived by her three children Carl Ray Helms, Shirley Helms, and Terry Helms and her nine grandchildren Scott Helms, Dawn Baze, Shanese Harris, Don Harris, Jeffery Helms, Whitney Helms, Korri Helms, Josh Helms and Preston Helms. She is also survived by her sister Hazel Lee Hall and brother Courtney Parks, seven great grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces. services will be 11:00 a.m. , 25, 2010 at Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel in Del City, followed by interment at New Hope in Meeker, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends , 24, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the .
