Obituary: Betty was born in Corning AR. The Reed family ventured to California in of 1941 landing first in Goleta and soon settling in Ventura. She attended Ventura H.S. in the class of 1947. Soon after she met her future husband Donald Coffey. were married in of 1949. Betty started her work career at Pacific Truck Lines, spent a few years at the navy base before working over 20 years at Standard Oil. Standard Oil closed down the office in Ventura county she became office manager at the Blow Out Prevention School at Ventura Community until she retired. she retired Don and Betty traveled in their motor home. She liked to brag that she had been to every state in America but Alaska. a few years 6 months out the year they purchased a second home in Buchanan Dam, TX. For the next 15 years Don and Betty split time between Ventura and TX. In 2011 they moved back to Ventura permanently where Don passed away later that year. Betty remained in Ventura in the house she loved until she passed away peacefully in her home. She is survived by daughter Linda Coffey, son Richard Coffey, grandsons Dustin Coffey and Tyler Coffey, and sister Mary Ratekin. She always enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends and family and playing cards. She was also the best salsa maker in the world! A celebration of life get together will be on 18th at 3:00 pm at Marie Calendars in Ventura CA. |

Obituary: Betty Jane was born in Henrietta, Oklahoma, the fifth of seven children of William OBannon Atwell and his wife Mildred. Sisters Millie and Cora predeceased her and she leaves three brothers; William (Freida), Kenneth and Donald (Barty) and sister (Jim). There are also three nieces and one nephew. Betty spent her childhood in Oklahoma and upon graduating from high school followed her sister Millie to California in 1946. Being an excellent typist she soon found a job with National Title Insurance where she met her future husband Frank. fell in love and in 1952 married. settled in Alhambra, California, where their son Frank was born 9, 1954. Betty thrived on being a wife and mother. In this close- knit neighborhood there was usually a holiday get-together with neighbors for her and Frank to enjoy. Neighborhood parties celebrating birthdays of children gave her special delight. She took up golf and enjoyed many golf outings with Frank and their AFE (away from everything) group. The group played many years together in all the adjoining counties. In the late seventies Frank was transferred to an office in the South Bay area. To shorten the long commute they moved to Lakewood, California. Of course they kept in touch with their old Alhambra friends as they made new ones locally. Betty loved to try new dining establishments and became a loyal customer when they had a dish she found special. On those occasions when servers saw her enter they would see that her drink awaited her at the table. Betty was a positive and confident woman and in addition to enjoying being a housewife, a mother raising her son, and playing golf she was a great cook and grand hostess. She lived by her belief that we were put on this earth to help others. She instilled this in her grandchildren upon whom she doted and was always there for them. She could always be found helping out at St. Pancratius School during their elementary school years. She also leaves her devoted husband Frank Jr., her only child Frank III (Cris) and the three grandchildren Matthew, Emily and Andrew.
