Obituary: Melany was born in Sonora, California, on , 8, 1950 at 10:45 PM, the fourth child, to parents, Charles Wayne and Vera Josephine Tessier. Her father worked as an electrician for PG & E in a Powerhouse near Stanislaus CA. lived in a community called Camp Nine along a river with other families that serviced the hydroelectric powerhouse. There they were exposed to many wild deer and even a bear. Later, her dad moved the family to Oakland to get training in communications and eventually relocated the family to West Christina Street in Stockton in 1957. His office was in the PG&E building, on West Lane next to West Lane Bowl. At age eight, Melany’s father passed away leaving her mother to raise four children on her own. Melany graduated from Amos Alonzo Stagg High school in 1969 and went on to college in Texas at Howard Payne University to obtain her degree in teaching. She finished her degree and obtained a few more classes at Sacramento State so she could earn her Texas Teacher Certificate in of 1974. She tried to find teaching jobs in the Stockton area, but unfortunately all she could get was a teaching assistant position in a local Christian school in downtown Stockton. To make ends meet she also worked part-time at the Service counter in the basement of Sears for many years. Melany went back to school and earned Accounting units to qualify to work for the State of California and began working for the Youth Authority in their accounting office as an Accounting Clerk. a few years she successfully tested and was hired in Sacramento as an Accounting Technician for the Employment Development Department. There she helped correct employer’s unemployment tax returns. She promoted to Accountant I specialist and then Accounting Officer, where she was a trainer for many of their current employees. Melany eventually retired from the State after 30 plus years of service on 10th of 2012. In 1984, Melany was introduced to Duane by a mutual friend in their church. a bit of coaching, Duane got up the nerve to ask Melany out, and in his awkward way, asked her so abruptly, she could not say no. On there first date, a brunch at the Castaway, the Holy Spirit told Melany that he would be her husband, at which point she said, ”no way”. Fortunately, Duane did not run off after Melany’s girl friend shared what the Holy Spirit told Melany and he eventually proposed on 6th 1986, and they were subsequently married May 2, 1987. were blessed with two beautiful girls in the subsequent years and continued to live in the Stockton area staying active in the church together in the praise team and the nursery. 27 plus years of marriage, Melany and Duane are more in love with each other than the day they said, “I do”. Other shared interests were that of camping, Duane and Melany’s favorite vacation was two weeks at Pinecrest Lake doing nothing but relaxing by the lake and camp fires at night. Melany has always been a strong prayer warrior and a very strong woman of faith, continuing to stand on her confessions of faith every day. She was a great listener, when people confided in her, she took the time to listen and then offer faith filled words of encouragement and prayer. She is a walking miracle, battling cancer and its side effects for nearly 14 years. Many times, when the enemy tried to take her out, she amazed the doctors and continued on. In 2008, Melany was one of the first ladies in the church to step up and take on a women’s life group and in the following year joined her husband to form the first Married Couple’s Life group in 2009. If asked what her most important things were in her life, she would say her personal relationship with Jesus Christ, her husband and children. She is survived by her husband Duane, daughters Kara and Brittany and her older siblings Cherie, Howard, Karen and their respective families. Melany will be missed as a Grand Lady of the faith, a Wife, a Mother, a Sister, Aunt, and friend to many. |
