Obituary: Cheryl D. Cherrington, 69 of Shingle Springs, CA passed away at her home on 21, 2010. Cheryl was born to Charles E. and Roberta (Englent) Smith in Oroville, CA. Raised as a Catholic, she always kept her ties to the Catholic Church. On 30, 1957, she was united in marriage to Lon Frank Cherrington in Stockton, CA. A Presbyterian minister did the officiating since Lon was a Methodist. Lon and Cheryl first resided in Manteca for the 1st 6 years of their married life. In 1964 they relocated to Susanville, CA. During this time Mrs. Cherrington operated a dog grooming parlor until the move to Phoenix, AZ. in 1970. During the next few years, managed a restaurant, country club dining room, and lab technician. Cheryl was proud to be President of the Colonial Cherrington Pacific Corporation (CHERPAC) for 11 years. She enjoyed flying the Cessna 172, riding street and dirt motorcycles, camping expeditions, fishing, shooting guns, and driving her 1964 t-bird sports roadster convertible, and of course their motor tours across the United States. She is survived by her husband, Lon; 3 children, Loren (Cheryl Ann) Frank Cherrington of Cameron Park, CA., Darla (Stephen) Lynn Gifford, Vacaville,CA and Jacqueline Dean Cherrington, Hemet, CA; one sister, Lorrie Chambers, Bonnerdale, Arkansas; 4 grandchildren; Sarah (James III), Dalling, Danielle (Nathan) Blair Rivera, San Diego, CA, Christopher Gifford, Vacaville,CA, Lindsey Deschenes, 1 sister, Pamela Winters, Stockton, CA and 1 brother, Kenneth Rose, Florida. 3 great-grandchildren; Leanne, James IV, Wyatt, and 1 baby girl Rivera on the way. Memorial services will be held on , 3 at 2:00p.m. at the Foothill United Methodist Church, 3301 Green Valley Rd., Rescue. Officiating will be Reverend Dave Bunje from the Foothill United Methodist and Church and The Reverend Monsignor James C. Kidder of Holy Family Catholic Church. Obituary: John E. Cherrie was born in Danville, Illinois, 16, 1928, to John Eldred Cherrie and Ethel (Swisher) Cherrie to a family of six children (one sister and four brothers). He went to be with the Lord 18, 2016, Ventura, CA at age 88. John attended Washington Community High School, graduating in 1946. He went to at the Caterpillar and was working there when he married Evelyn Gilliam on 7, 1949. John quit the Caterpillar and enrolled at Fort Wayne (now Taylor University) in Upland, Indiana and graduated with a degree in engineering in 1955. He felt called to go into the mission field and along with Evelyn enrolled in the China Inland Mission (Now Overseas Fellowship), serving from 1955 - 1958 in Bangkok, Baknampho, and Bonmokang, Thailand. Evelyn became ill so they returned to Illinois where John worked with his brother, Gene in construction. In 1960 they moved to Ventura, California where John was the founding pastor of the Ventura Missionary Church. That same year they adopted their son John Phillip. In 1962 they adopted Beth Ann and in 1964 they moved to Phoenix, AZ, where he pastored the Northwest Missionary Church. From 1969-1973 John was pastor of Calvary Missionary Church (now known as Westlake Community Church) in Thousand Oaks. From 1978-1982 John was the Administrative Pastor at Ventura Missionary Church under the Reverend Dr. Leonard DeWitt. From 1982-1986, John was the Administrative Director of the Union Rescue Mission, Los Angeles, CA. John received a call to rejoin the Overseas Fellowship at Robinzonia, PA, which they did from 1988-1990. returned in 1990 to Ventura Missionary Church where John was pastor of the seniors until his retirement in 2002. John will be missed for his kind and generous giving, even when he didn have the means to give. He wanted to help others in need. John also was totally involved in trying to win others to the Lord. He would stop people he saw and ask them if they knew Jesus. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; his daughter, Beth Ann; and his brothers, Carl, Ralph, and Gene. He is survived by his son, John Philip; grandsons, Jonathan, and Spencer; brother, David; sister, Eleanor Wenger, sisters in law, Betsy Cherrie, and Ilene Cherrie; longtime friend, Lola Higby, adopted daughter, Cindy Lanza; and many nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held , May 21, 2016, 11:00 A.M., at the Ventura Missionary Church, 500 High Point Drive, Ventura, CA. under the direction of Ted Mayr , Ventura, CA. |

Obituary: Evelyn was born 29, 1931 at Maricopa , Arizona to Cecil Earnest Gilliam and Elizabeth Nuest. She died 25, 2016. Her parents divorced and at the age of two, she went to live with her Uncle Phil and Aunt Ann (Gilliam) Kaufman who lived in Claremont, Illinois. Evelyn graduated from East Peoria High School of 1949 and married John Elmer Cherrie 7, 1949 at the Bethany Missionary Church at East Peoria, Illinois. A year after Evelyn married, she came down with polio. The doctor planned to put her in an iron lung, but the church members prayed for her and she amazed the doctor and was breathing on her own. Evelyn was a loving and devoted wife traveling with John as missionaries with the China Inland Mission (now known as the Overseas Fellowship) to Bangkok, Baknampho and Bonmokang, Thailand from 1955-1958. In 1960 John and Evelyn adopted a son, John Phillip and moved to Ventura and founded the Ventura Missionary Church. In 1962 they adopted a daughter, Beth Ann. In 1964, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona where John pastored the Northwest Missionary Church. In 1969-1973 John and Evelyn moved to Thousand Oaks where John pastored the Calvary Missionary Church (now known as Westlake Community Church). In 1978-1982 John and Evelyn moved back to Ventura where John was Administrative Pastor under Leonard DeWitt at Ventura Missionary Church. Evelyn was always active in all the churches that they attended teaching school and singing in the choir. In 1982-1986, John was the Administrative Director of the Union Rescue Mission, Los Angeles. In 1988-1990 John and Evelyn rejoined the Overseas Fellowship at Robinzonia, a, PA. In 1990 John and Evelyn returned to Ventura Missionary Church where John was Pastor to the seniors until his retirement in 2003. Evelyn helped support John during his ministry by working in the church as well as working for Moore Business Forms, Dean Witter and Union Rescue Mission. Evelyn started oil painting when they lived in Phoenix and has produced many lovely paintings. Evelyn is survived by her husband, John and son, John Phillip. Beth Ann preceded her in death.
