Obituary: Jorge G. Castro, CFA 1957-2015 Jorge was the son of Henry and Thelma Contreras Castro, a merchant seaman and homemaker, who sacrificed to give a solid Catholic school education for him, his brothers and sister. His parents worked very hard and often held down two or three jobs at a time to provide an enriched life for their children. His parents set examples of faith and good will by deeply involving themselves in the family parish. taught Jorge about giving back to the community and nourish a loving family. These were one of the many values and traits that characterize Jorge and how he lived his life. Jorge grew up in Watts and Huntington Park. He attended St. Matthias Grammar School and Loyola Jesuit High School. In his sophomore year, he won a scholarship to Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts where he spent his final two years of high school. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University, was awarded a Danforth Fellowship and also earned a Masters degree in Government from Harvard University. He was also a Ph.D. candidate at Harvard before turning to a career on New Yorks Wall Street. Professionally, Jorge was a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). seven years on Wall Street, Jorge and his longtime friend and business partner, Fernando Inzunza, co-founded CIC to manage investments for pension funds and endowments. Jorge was only 32 years old at the time and always exhibited great vision and ambition. A few years before he launched his business in 1986, Jorge and his beloved Nancy were married. With her full support, he and Fernando began building what later became Lombardia Capital. Lombardia is today a shining example of the promise of America. It manages close to $4 billion and has a diverse staff of talented professionals located in Pasadena and Chicago. A civic leader nationally and in his native California, Jorge was a strong supporter of education and economic opportunity for all Americans. On many occasions he was honored for his business and civic contributions, including by the State of California. He served on the boards of many non-profits and public entities, including, Milton Academy and Polytechnic School in Pasadena. Jorge and Nancys son, Dominic, who Jorge loved dearly and had great pride in him as a student at Polytechnic School. Jorge was a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, colleague and friend. He did a lot in his 57 years. But perhaps the most important way we will remember him is for being a good person who never forgot where he came from and that life is about making our world a better place to live. Though Jorge is not physically with us any longer, his spirit and the values he embodied will inspire us until the end of our days. Mil gracias de todo corazón a todos los que nos acompañan hoy.
