Obituary: Loreatta Carr was the oldest of 12 children born to Luis and Ollie B. Cross on May 17, 1941 in Blue Lake, Mississippi. Upon accepting Jesus Christ at an early age as her Savior and Lord, She united with St. John Baptist Church in Blue Lake, MS. She lataer moved to California and moved her membership in 1978 to Solomon Temple Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. P.N. Sumpter and now current pastor Rev. Victor Brice. She was very active in the Mission Department and on the Mothers Board. She received her education at Rome Elementary and graduated from West District High School in Sumner, MS. Loreatta was employed at Foothill Middle School in Walnut Creek before she retired in 1996. She also worked at Community Service Department of Contra Costa . She was very active in her community during her early years. She was chairperson of the West Pittsburg Area Council, Riverview School Community and Ambrose Lions Club, Concerted Services Youth Project, Economic Opportunity Council, a member of the YWCA and Vice President of Vicksburg All American Cub. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. Loreatta, known to many of us as Ree was a dedicated mother. Her concern was always the welfare of her family. She was a good friend to many and always willing to help anyone. She loved to cook and have family gatherings. She loved her grandchildren more than the world as well as her children. Most of all, she loved to dress wearing a hat to match every suit. Loreatta was the matriarch of the family and you could call her anytime. She was the rock. Whether near of far, she would take care of you. She always had a smile, even if she was not in the best of health. Most, but not least, she loved to talk on the phone. Loreatta Carr departed this lie on 27, 2015 and was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Carr; parents: Louis and Ollie B. Cross; brother, Willie Cross; and grandparents: Marshall and Callie Scurlock. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Fred, Clexton (Toni), David (Jovi), Rochelle (Silas), Maurice (Lynette), Courtney (Kevin) Myrtle, Grady Jr., Reggie Kelvin, Cassandra, and Kam; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Odell, Robert and Steve Cross; five sisters: Ollie Henegan, Nella Lejune, Katie Williams, Martha Mallard, Ada Cross; uncle Walter James Scurlock; and one special sister, Sheila (Virgil) Crawley; other relatives, friends and her church family. |
