Obituary: Howard L. Clein, 66, passed away on , 12, 2017 after a brief illness. Howard was born on May 11, 1951 in Greensboro, NC, the son of Robert and Selma Clein. He graduated from Grimsley High School and received his degree from UNC Chapel Hill. He worked with his father in the family chemical business in sales. Howard was active in various activities at Temple Emanuel where he was a member. He loved to read and play golf. He truly was a gentleman and a scholar. He will be deeply missed. Howard was preceded in death by his father Robert in 2008. He is survived by his mother, Selma F. Clein of Greensboro and sister Ellen Holmes and husband Jim of Fairfax, VA. Graveside services will be held on , 10:00 am at Greensboro Hebrew with Rabbi Andy Koren officiating. Obituary: Rebecca (Becky) Knight Clegg passed away on 14, 2015, after a long, valiant battle with lung cancer. She was born 6, 1935 in Raleigh, NC to the late James Ralph and Mildred Allen Knight. Upon graduation from Meredith in 1957, she was employed as an Archivist for the State of North Carolina. She married Henry in of that year. moved to Deland, Florida and lived there for two years and then returned to Raleigh. She was again employed by and retired from the State as an Internal Management Consultant after 30 years of service. She was an active member of Benson Memorial UMC for 40+ years serving in various capacities. She was especially devoted to her School Class. She loved golf, bridge, puzzles, reading and helping others. She is survived by her daughter Leslie C. McKnight and her husband, Jonathan of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and her daughter-in-law, Leigh Anne Clegg of Moncure, NC, her four grandchildren; Kristen and Kyle McKnight, Christopher Clegg and Joey Wandzilak, her sister, Carolyn K. West of Fernandina Beach, Florida and her extended Clegg and Knight family members. Her husband, Henry, and son, Mike preceded her. A Celebration of Life will be held on , 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., with visitation to follow in the Fellowship Hall, Benson Memorial UMC, 4706 Creedmoor Rd, Raleigh. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Chatham UMC. Obituary: Luther Bynum Clegg, 91, a native of Greensboro, NC, passed away evening, 6, at Golden Living , surrounded by loving friends and former customers. Graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. , 10, 2010 at Green Hill . In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant brother, W. F. Clegg, Jr. and a sister, Sarah Burton Clegg Graves. He was born on May 10, 1919, to William Francis Clegg and Minnie Bynum Clegg. He grew up learning the importance of working hard, from his fathers many enterprises -including being the owner of the Hotel Clegg - which also served as the cigar factory on the third floor (W. F. Clegg Black Beauty Cigars). He served his country in the 1940s with Naval service aboard the U.S.S. Melville, as a ship-fitter, 2nd Class. He was the iconic Door - to - Door salesman, surviving well into the e-commerce era, still using a ledger and carbon paper receipt book. He was a very humble and positive, trusting person. He continued his sales business until age 88. Known as the Fuller Brush Man, he carried numerous goods including 5-year light bulbs, Gingher scissors, household specialty cleaning agents and tools. Exposés in OUR STATE Magazine and THE NEWS & RECORD, in recent years, attest to his amazing ability to take care of his customers. He figured out his market by doing most of his business in the afternoons and evenings, when there was a greater likelihood of catching his customers at home. He would frequently carry treats or interesting articles to share with his repeat customers. He was a big supporter of missionaries who distributed Bibles in areas behind the Iron and Bamboo Curtains. Luther was a collector of tools and books and an avid reader, educating himself in many disciplines of healthy living and self-improvement. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Childrens Library Fund, 1000 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27401.
