Obituary: Rufus Thomas Carswell 1920 – 2014 Rufus Thomas Carswell, 94, of Waynesville, NC passed away 11, 2014 in Ocala, FL. He was born in Waynesville on 14, 1920 to the late John and Anna Margaret Carswell. He served as Captain in the US Army during WWII. He was also a member of the Hazelwood Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Faye Carswell; Siblings, Sam Carswell, Richard Carswell, Mark Carswell, Wallace Carswell, Sarah Ann Galloway and Mildred Yarborough. Survivors include a daughter, Jan McQuade (Jim) of Ocala, FL; son , Tommy Carswell (Charlene) of Lake Junaluska, NC; grandchildren, Trip Carswell of Bryson City, NC, Heather McNeish of Ocala, FL, and Charlie Carswell of Austin, TX; brother, Fred Carswell of Johnson City, TN; and three great grandchildren. services will be held at 11 AM , 16, 2014 at Hazelwood Baptist Church with the Reverend Tim Lolley officiating. Obituary: Ms. Carrie Hudson Carswell, 69, of Morganton passed away , 25, 2017. Carrie was born 8, 1947 in Cleveland to the late Horace E. Hudson and Viola Ruth Hudson. She attended Walkers Chapel Baptist Church. Carrie worked as a Recreational Therapist at Broughton Hospital. During her career at Broughton Hospital she was known for conducting the May Day Parade, organizing trips to the beach for patients, and inviting patients to her home for holiday meals. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, and participating in church events. She was also a member of the State Employees Association of North Carolina and the WMU. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Bland Hudson. Survivors include, her Sons, Kevin Carswell, Danny Carswell and wife Kristi; Daughter, Jeri Berry and husband Hal; Grandchildren, Samuel Carswell and wife Kansas, Andrew Carswell, Luke Carswell, and Zoie Carswell; Brothers, Bob Hudson and wife Marilyn, Jerry Hudson and wife Wanda, and Lyndon Hudson; and Sisters, Ruth Reynolds and husband Richard, Peggy Lail, and Penny Hudson. Also surviving are numerous Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Great Nephews. A funeral service will be held 1:00PM 29, 2017 in the Chapel of Heritage Service with the Rev. Danny McNeily and Rev. J.D. Grasty officiating. Interment will follow at St. Johns Baptist Church . The family will receive friends 28, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 at Heritage Service.
