Obituary: Robert Clayton Sr., 81, of Manchester, died 26, 2006 after a short illness surrounded by his family. He was born in Manchester on 10, 1924, the son of Thomas and Sadie (Wright) Clayton. He was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Manchester High School Central, Class of 1941. During WWII, he served in the US Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific. Prior to retirement, he had been employed at St. Anselm for more than 20 years. Since retirement, he had worked for Bellemore Heating Oil. Mr. Clayton was a lifetime member of both the Alpine Club and the American Legion William H. Jutras Post #43. He loved spending summer vacations at Hampton Beach with his family and was affectionately known as Boopa by his grandchildren. Among his greatest passions was following local sports teams, especially the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Anne (Leafe) Clayton in 2003. Members of his family include one daughter, Nancy Clayton of Manchester; five sons, Robert Clayton Jr. of Hooksett, Thomas Clayton, John Clayton, Michael Clayton, and William Clayton, all of Manchester; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held in the Lambert Chapel on 1, 2006. Burial followed in Pine Grove , Manchester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA , & Hospice Program, 1850 Elm St, Manchester, NH 03104. |

Obituary: Betty Anne Clayton, 75, died 30, 2003, at her home following a courageous battle with melanoma. She was born in Manchester 8, 1927, the eldest daughter of Frederick E. Leafe Sr. and Wilma (Roberts) Leafe. She was a 1944 graduate of Manchester High School Central. She enjoyed a lengthy career as a waitress at a number of popular Manchester restaurants, including Ozzies, Veranis, Aurores, The Chateau, The 88 and the Merrimack Restaurant. A lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, she also enjoyed her summers at Hampton Beach and spending time with her family and her 10 grandchildren, who dubbed her Mimi. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Frederick E. Leafe Jr. Family members include her husband of 56 years, Robert Clayton, Sr.; a daughter, Nancy Clayton, a paralegal employed with Riverstone Group; five sons, Manchester District Fire Chief Thomas Clayton; Public Service Co.of NH executive Robert Clayton Jr., Union Leader columnist John Clayton, retired Manchester Fire Captain Michael Clayton and NH State Rep. William Clayton, who serves as president of Manchester Professional Firefighters Local 856; five sisters, Natalie McDonald and Janet MacDougall, both of Goffstown; Judith Dakoulas of Manchester, Sandra Duriga of Bedford and Jaye Aither of Exeter; three brothers, Donald Leafe of Litchfield, Stephen Leafe of Manchester and Kenneth Leafe of Jupiter, Fl; 10 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at the funeral home 4, 2003. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA & Hospice, 1850 Elm St., Manchester, 03104-2911. |
