Obituary: Vangel "Van" Christoff - Of Jackson, passed away on , 3, 2010 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elenor Nora (Christie) Christoff; children, Denise (Chuck) Parks of Parma, Craig (Vicki) Christoff of Rives Junction and Karen Flores of California; three grandsons, Jonathan Parks, Matthew Parks and Caleb Christoff; two step -granddaughters, Mallory (Kamil) Nerwuca and Abbey Hile; two step-great grandchildren; sister Helen Saroff of Toronto as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Van Thomas Christoff; sister, Valeka Boadgieff; brothers, Chris and George Christoff. Van was born to Atanas and Magda Christoff in Jackson. he graduated from Jackson High in 1940 he attended Tri State University. He then served in the U.S. Navy and received his commission at Columbia University in New York. Van was a proud Veteran; he had served in the Pacific during WWII aboard the U.S.S LaGrange as a Lieutenant. his honorable discharge he returned to Jackson and received a mechanical engineering degree and was employed at Commonwealth. He met his wife Nora, in Toronto where they were married. resided in Jackson were they raised their family. His love for people and knowledge of the restaurant business generated a career change and he then became co-owner of Virginia Coney Island, where he retired after 37 years. He was loved and respected by his employees and was known as Uncle Van by his younger friends. He was a member of the American Legion Post 29 for 55 years; the P.L.A.V. Post 83 and was a long time member of His beloved St. Demetrius Orthodox Church 3043 Seymour Rd. Jackson, 49201, where a funeral service honoring his life is scheduled on , 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Dusan Koprivica officiating. Family will receive friends for visitation today at the Church from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A liturgy for St. Nicholas will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Van will be laid to rest in Woodland cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Demetrius Church in his honor. Slow and steady wins the race. |

Obituary: Jonas N. Christner age 93 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away afternoon, 20, 2015 at his home. He was born 8, 1921 in Topeka, Indiana son of the late Dan and Mary Ann (Hershberger) Christner. Jonas resided his entire life in the Lagrange , Indiana and Sturgis area. On 12, 1947 he married Leona Lamb in LaGrange, Indiana. Following over 30 years of dedicated employment Jonas retired from the Paramount Furniture in Sturgis. Following his retirement he was employed part time for a few years by Ross Laboratories also in Sturgis. Jonas was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis. He was proud of his service during WWII in the U.S. Army earning the rank of Corporal. He served as a Boy Scout Leader, enjoyed gardening, coffee at McDonalds, being outdoors, drives around the countryside and he always had time to play with the children in the family. Jonas is survived by two sons: Timothy (Carol) Christner of Kansas city, Missouri and Jan (Karen) Christner of Sturgis; four grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers and one sister. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside services and burial of the ashes will take place at 12:00 P.M. at the Sturgis Memorial Gardens in Sturgis where full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. The Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family s, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial donations would be appreciated to the family c/o: Jan Christner, 29927 E. US 12, Sturgis, MI 49091 to help with expenses.
