▰ Theresa A (Dennesen) Conville

Died May 08, … More Information
Theresa A (Dennesen) Conville went into the presence of the Lord on May 8, 2016 in Salem, Massachusetts. Obituary: SALEM – Mrs. Theresa A. (Dennesen) Conville, 89, of Salem, beloved wife of the late John L. Conville, passed away on , May 8th at her home. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. We are never prepared when we lose someone that we love. The emotions are raw as we recollect on all of the memories. Upon both the happy and sad occasions we had with our loved one. Mortality is especially difficult for most of us when it transpires within our own family. And Francine had a extended family of loved ones. Id like to note that I call Teresa Conville - Francine. So if you knew Francine as TD, Ma-do, Teresa, Tree, T ect, bear with me as I need to stick to Francines direct mandate, to always call her Francine. Now, as we gather to reflect upon Francines passing, I would like to try to weave the timeline of her life, and her commitment to both God and her family within this Eulogy. Francine has well established relationships with everyone here. I can only offer my best informed account and try to encompass some of the deep connections she had with you during her almost century long duration of life. Id also like to take in account the significance of her passing, which occurred not only on her birthday, but on Mothers day as well, and in deed Francine was a mother to us all. Francine passed on her 89th Birthday. A birthday is both a celebration of life, and also a time to reflect upon ones calling in life. And, It is clear that Francines time here was to help others and to spread the word of God. In fact, I could easily state that she was one of the most committed people I have ever met whose entire life was focused on these two convictions. Francines commitment to the Catholic Church began at a young age when she left her family to become a Nun with the order of sacred heart. The full energy of Francines life for the next two decades was to serve the Catholic community as an educator. Francine obtained a masters degree during this time, and she traveled the country to spread religious education to Catholic children attending secular schools. When Francine decided to leave the convent in the early 70s to begin her life as a lay person, my family had the great fortune to be able host her at our home for about two years during this transition while she reconnected with her friends and family and worked as a teacher as well. I was a preschooler when she lived with us, and Francine immersed herself into the my childhood experience. I have many vibrant and fond memories of our time together when I was a child. And, throughout my life this enthusiasm never stopped. Francine was a weekly advisor on my well-being. With her passing I lost an informed spiritual confidant who was finely tuned into the nuances of my life. And, I am sure I am not alone in this regard. Francines life journey from here had really just begun. Francine moved in with the Dennesens of Beverly and again established lifelong ties within this family and a long and close friendship with Laura. This was also the time that Francine met the love of her Life, John Conville, and they got married. This clearly was the most special time in Francines life, as any recent visit to her home would reveal, some very predominately displayed pictures of her and John together on their honeymoon and on vacations. With her new family, Francine assumed the role of mother and wife, and she also became known as Ma-do as well, which basically means second mother. Francine established deep and loving connections within the Conville family that extended all the way to grand and great grandchildren. I can account for all the personal relations that she had with everyone within the Conville, Goggin ,Dennesen, Murray and all the other extended family member s , but what I do know is that her love, care and concern for each and every one of you was genuine and deep, and she brought her own loving sense of compassion, humor, enthusiasm, and sometimes stubbornness and her strong opinions into these relations as well. She was, after all, fully human. Then there are the numerous people that she helped during her career as a licensed psychologist. It is impossible for me to begin to even guess how many people she connected with and helped out during her lifetime. But again what I do know, is that her desire to help, and assist as an agent of God is was what defined her as a person for her entire life. In her advanced years, Francine lived independently with a strong spirit and with a continued commitment to assist her family. In her 80s she became a regular part of CJ Dennesens life to assist Chris and Lisa in raising him with comfort. And for years she quietly maintained the health of her ailing sister Rita. Somehow, she kept tabs on many of us as well. During these years she also witnessed the passing of all her remaining siblings. She was the last of my Fathers family, and with her passing there is a sense that a direct connection to the life and times of this generation has ended. But this never daunted Francine one bit, at Ritas funeral she reminded me that I should not be sad, but happy for Rita as she is in heaven. She actually softly rejoiced and reminded me of the importance of having faith and to be happy in life as well. Francines passing also happened on the very special day of our Blessed mother, on Mothers Day. At this time, Francine may have been humanly alone, but be consoled that our blessed mother and her guardian angel were right there with her continued...

Obituary: Frances Hamlen Converse, who was born, raised, and a 67-year resident in Dover, Massachusetts, passed away on 23, 2014 at the Tippett in Needham. Frances was 89 years old. Frances was born in her Dover home (Woods End) on 16, 1925 to Catherine Ames Royce Hamlen and Robert Cushing Hamlen. She is predeceased by her elder brother, Frederick Royce Hamlen, and younger sister, Catherine Royce Hamlen Motley (Kitty). Frances attended both the Caryl School and Charles River School in Dover. She graduated from Beaver Country Day School, was a debutante in 1942, and was a member of the Vincent Club. Frances then attended the Bouvé-Boston School at Tufts University where she majored in Physical Education. Frances had been suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) for many years, the effects of which took its inevitable toll. Having been at her bedside during her final days, Francess family takes comfort in knowing that she passed peacefully and painlessly. Profound gratitude goes to the hospice nurses and volunteers at the Tippett who took Mom and family under their wings. From the time Frances was a young child, she had spunk and a love for the outdoors. She played chicken with a friend on the Needham railroad trestle to see who would bail out first before jumping into the Charles as an oncoming train approached. She enjoyed spring skiing the Headwall at Mt. Washingtons Tuckerman Ravine in T-shirt and shorts without poles. As for nature and the outdoors, she started and tended to her first garden at age 6, a cherished avocation turned specialty (right down to the plants Latin names) that continued blossoming and expanding throughout her active life. She reveled in running along the beach during stays at her family summer home at Grand Beach, Maine. Frances shared many similar anecdotes and related thoughts with her children. Others were gleaned through meticulously annotated and organized scrapbooks. Until Frances married in 1948, she immersed herself in activities and organizations that built on her growing individuality. graduating from Beaver, Frances (who was already a strong tennis player) taught tennis at the Dana Hall School. During that period, she worked with Appalachian Mountain Club hutman at Pinkham Notch at Mt. Washington, NH attending to needs of the hiking, camping, and skiing members of the AMC. An emerging appreciation and empathy for people in need started to interweave with Francess other rooted and growing passions. Directly after shedding her debutante gown, Frances joined the Womens Land Army in Maine while farmers were overseas during the war, volunteering her time to work the crops to help to meet the agricultural demand to feed our soldiers and people at home. She helped to harvest crops and milk cows, among other farming chores. She even enjoyed the experience of driving a milk truck delivering milk to local residents. For the winter of 1944 – 45, Frances was selected to be a courier with the Frontier Service in Kentuckys Appalachian Mountains to assist in bringing social services to distressed and isolated families. This necessitated traveling on horseback, climbing mountains, and at flood time, crossing swollen rivers. In the summer of 1945, she attended the Putney Work Camp in Putney, Vermont. The camp was established for young people whose minds were open to new experiences with a wish to vigorously respond to work, confront significant issues of the day, and explore their relationship to the current world realities. Consequently, Frances traveled to France in 1947 as part of an international effort during post-war reconstruction to provide relief to orphaned children in refugee camps. Frances then married in 1948. eight difficult years of marriage before turning 30 years old, during which time she gave birth to three children, Frances asked for a divorce, and never remarried. Although no longer part of the couples scene of the mid-1950s, Frances was, and always has been, blessed with many dear and supportive friends. Frances went on to obtain her license to sell real estate, which she did for many years in the local area. And, Frances again became active in working with people; this time for the residents in her hometown. Frances conceived, championed and led the effort to establish the towns first ever dedicated building (the Frost House) as a recreation center for junior and high school students. She served on Dovers School Committee, Park Department, Recreation Commission, Long Range Planning Committee, and Commission during the 60s and early 70s. Frances also continued to be a hard-working and nurturing mother. Assuming the role of both parents, she made the dump runs, did home repairs, mowed the lawn (until her children were old enough to pitch in), prepared a wide range of only the healthiest and nutritional home-cooked meals; and in the latter part of the 1950s, directed and actually assisted builders in constructing a greenhouse as an extension to her Street home. That greenhouse still stands today. Francess love for gardening and flowers never ceased from her early childhood days. She was a member of the Noanet Garden Club for many years, and earned a blue ribbon in the early 1960s for garden design at the New England Flower Show on behalf of the garden club. Frances went on to study landscape design at a Radcliffe program, after which she was asked by the City of Boston to create a design for a city project. She then established herself as a professional landscape designer while continuing her work as a real estate broker. Frances provided her children experiences of adventure, camping and the outdoors hoping to instill an appreciation akin to her own. She once put packs on the backs of her five-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son, hiked Mount Washington and camped in an open lean-to shelter off the trail for several days just below tree line. Many other camping trips followed with all three of her children, including a camping adventure in Canada. On the return, they stopped to visit a friends in Stowe, VT with whom she had previously continued...
