Obituary: Margaret Kennedy Curtis, went home to be with the Lord on , 24, 2010. She was born 5, 1923, in Copiah , Mississippi and was 87 as the time of her death. During World War II, and prior to commencing a career in education, she worked in a metallurgical lab at a tube mill in Gary Indiana, as a quality control specialist. She received a BS in Education from Southern Mississippi at Clinton, MS. She had an additional 30+ hours in education at McNeese State University. She taught school in Copiah , MS for 18 years, before moving to Louisiana, and for 24 years at Grand Lake in Cameron Parish, before her retirement n 1986. She as very active as a professional educator, and is Past President of Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma professional education fraternity: and is also the Past President of the Cameron Parish Teachers Association. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and was listed I Outstanding and Distinguished Personalities of the South published in 1969. Margaret was initiated in the Ruth Chapter 16 of Order of Eastern Star (OES), Lake Charles, in 1964 and was a dual member of Rebecca Chapter #2, Welsh, LA; She served as Worthy Matron in both chapters several times. Margaret has also held appointments as Grand Representative to Ontario in Louisiana and as Grand Representative to Mississippi in Louisiana. She served as District Deputy Grand Matron in several times in Southwest Louisiana. She was the holder of a Gold Proficiency Certificate issued by the Grand Chapter, State of Louisiana, OES. Margaret taught School Class at First Baptist Church, Lake Charles for a number of years. She was a Charter Member of Tom Hebert Road Baptist Church, Where she served as Financial Secretary, as Vacation Bible School Director, and as School Director. Margaret was active in several social and community organizations, including Profit and Loss, Republican Round Table, and the Historical Society of SWLA. She was a charter member of the Eugenia Levy Phillips Chapter of the Order of Confederate Rose, and Served as Chaplain. She was preceded in death by her first husband Clifton Kennedy, by her parents Marvin Oscar Foster and Mary Inez Foster Chadwick, and a brother Willard Boyd Foster. Survivors include her husband, Nathan Curtis, a daughter, Margaret Pauline Kennedy of Nashville, TN and two brothers, Robert m. Pete Foster and Clarence Everette Foster, of Hazlehurst, MS. Services for Mrs. Curtis will be held on , 26, 2010 at 10AM in the Chapel of Hixson of Lake Charles. Reverend Chris Fuselier will officiate. Burial will follow in Strong Hope Baptist Church in Hazelhurst, MS at 2Pm , 27, 2010. Visitation will be held on , 25 from 5PM -8PM and will continue on , 26, 2010 from 8AM until time of service. Obituary: A resident of Denham Springs passed away suddenly on , 14, 2017 at the age of 35 surrounded by family and friends. Jason was a welder at Exxon. Obituary: Frances Collens Curtis died on , 28, 2015. She was 95 years old. Wife of the late Nathaniel Cortlandt Curtis, Jr. Daughter of the late Thomas Wharton and Stella Harang Collens. Survived by her seven children: Carol C. Kemper (William “Buddy”) of Flat Rock, NC; Nell C. Tilton (Eugene “Chip”) of New Orleans; Nathaniel C. “Cort” Curtis III (Mary) of Laguna Niguel, CA; Frances Curtis (Richard Schembor) of Lexington, MA; Stella C. Colomb (Charles “Buff”) of New Orleans; Kathryn C. Hodorek (Robert) of Costa Rica; and David Campbell Wharton Curtis of New Orleans. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Kelly Everett (Roberto Aburto - Silva), Anne Everett, Christopher Tilton, Cassandra Jellà (Steven), Michael Curtis, Stefan Schembor, Erik Schembor, Christian Schembor, Rebecca Brinkmann (Yves), Brian Hodorek (Amber), Nathan Hodorek, Justin Hodorek, and Amy Hodorek; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Wharton Collens, Jr. Frances was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart, and attended Newcomb where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was also a member of the Junior League of New Orleans, the Southern Yacht Club, The Colonial Dames of America, Children of Mary Sodality, and a parishioner of Holy Name of Jesus Church. The family wishes to thank the staff at Lambeth House (St. Anna’s) and The Sanctuary at Passages Hospice for their care and compassion. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on , 4, 2015 at 1:00PM.
