Obituary: Marcus W. Cain, Sr., a native of Vidalia and resident of Baton Rouge, he passed away on , May 25, 2016 at Harvest Manor at the age of 83. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and loved spending weekends at his camp. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Cain; mother, Ruth Cain; his beloved wife of 42 years Janice W. Obituary: James Marshall Cain died peacefully at Lambeth House on 19th surrounded by family. He was 82 years old. Jim is survived by Barbara Hammond Cain, his wife of 55 years, his son James Hammond Cain, his daughter, Beverly Cain Dowling, three granddaughters, Havard Sarah Lambert, Ashley Hammond Dowling, Caroline Camden Dowling, two grandsons, Marshall Lawrence Cain, Spencer Hammond Cain, Sister-in-Law Beverly Hammond Churchill, Godson Nicholas Dalton Perdue as well as beloved cousins, friends, and colleagues. Jim was the only son of James Havard and Louise Babin Cain, who preceded him in death. Jim grew up in Baton Rouge and graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1951. He received his bachelor's degree from Tulane University in 1955 and served overseas in the U.S. Army from which he was honorably discharged in 1957 as a Lieutenant. Following his military service, he received his master's degree in business administration from Tulane University in 1959. Jim joined New Orleans Public Service (currently part of Entergy Corporation) in 1960. He was the former President, Director and CEO of Middle South Services, President of New Orleans Public Services, Inc., President and then Chair and CEO of Louisiana Power & Light, under his tenure completing the Waterford 3 nuclear power plant in Taft, LA bringing it on-line supplying power. The Waterford 3 Training carries his name in tribute. He retired as Vice Chairman of Entergy in 1993. He was the member of the Board of Directors, Whitney National Bank and Whitney Holding Corporation, the Board of Directors, Avondale Industries, Chairman and Board Member of The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans, member of the Board of Directors of the Preservation Resource , member of the Board of Directors of the Arts Council of New Orleans, member of the Board of Directors of Delchamps, Inc., Chairman and member of the Board of Trustees of the Greater New Orleans Foundation, Inc., emeritus member of the Board of Governors of Tulane University Medical , member of the Business School Council of Tulane University School of Business, served on the President’s Council of Tulane, member of the Board of Trustees for Dillard University, member of the Governing Board of the Ochsner Medical Foundation. Chairman and Member of the Board of Children’s Hospital, Former Chairman of the Chamber of New Orleans and the River Region, Board Member of the Boy Scouts of America, The Urban League of Greater New Orleans, Children’s Hospital and WYES. He was also active in the Salvation Army’s homeless shelter, the of Hope and the YMCA’s literacy program making several commercials receiving a Cleo Award for one of the spots. Jim was the recipient of the Dermot McGlinchey Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998 as well as the Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1991 from the A.B. Freeman School of Business, both from Tulane University. He was the recipient of the 39th Annual Weiss Award of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the Freeman Foundation National George Washington Honor Medal for Individual Achievement and the Laubach Literacy International Humanitarian of the Year Award. He was a member and Senior Warden of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, a member of the New Orleans Country Club, the Pickwick Club, the Boston Club, Southern Yacht Club, and several carnival organizations. He was honored to be selected and serve as Rex, King of Carnival in 1994. The family wishes to thank all the nurses, CNAs and support Staff at Lambeth House for their loving care of Jim during his long illness and Passages Hospice for their wonderful care during the last few months.
