He loved playing outside as he had just learned to ride his bike without training wheels. He had the Biggest Heart, always thought he was the funniest guy in the room, he was always the first to volunteer to help with anything. He will be dearly missed. Obituary: Michael Edward Mike Coomes, 68, of Owensboro, KY died , 19, 2015, at his home. He was born 18, 1946 in Owensboro to the late Helen Edward Shepherd and Fred M. Coomes, Sr. He had been employed by Sears, Pyramid Mines and Ice Makers. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving in Special Forces. He was a lifelong member of Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 696, and a member of the American Legion, AmVets Post 75, NRA, and Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a Kentucky Colonel. He originated the Dallas Band and played in Rebel Creek Band. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Rittmeyer-Coomes and a niece, Amy Jones Krakowski. Survivors include a sister, Theresa Ann Jones (Frankie) of Owensboro; a brother, Fred M. Coomes, Jr. (Sharon) of Philpot, KY; nine nieces and nephews; and fifteen great nieces and nephews. Services are 10:00 a.m. on , 24, 2015, at Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro, celebrated by Father Pat Bittel. Entombment with military honors is in Rosehill in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on and from 9:00-9:30 a.m. on at James H. Davis & Crematory in Owensboro. Obituary: Mrs. Mary Drusie Coomes, of Owensboro, died 4, 2001 at Heartland Villa in Lewisport. Mrs. Coomes, the daughter of the late Phillip and Mary Hayden Clark, was born in West Louisville, Kentucky. Her husband, Joseph Herman Coomes, preceded her in death in 1947. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Helen Ruth Coomes in 1929. Mrs. Coomes was retired from Ken-Rad and General Electric after 39 years. She was the last survivor of the 1923 West Louisville Girls High School Championship Basketball Team. She was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral and a past member of the Alter Society. Surviving Mrs. Coomes are six children, Thomas H. Coomes, Sr., Joseph \Bucky\ Coomes, Donald D. Comes and Ronald G. Coomes all of Owensboro, Kentucky, Joyce Alvey of Tell City, Indiana and Jane Rowland of Louisville, Kentucky, 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren 2 great great grandchildren and her sister Ann Romain of Owensboro, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Hiram Logsdon in 1979, a daughter, Sandy Hidenrite, and brothers, Billy Knight and Gerald Knight. Surviving are her husband, Paul Coomes of Evansville, IN; daughters, Marie (Steve) James of Hermitage, TN, Laura Fay (T.R.) Cantrell of South Pittsburgh, TN, and Sherri Gayle Cheatham of Virginia; a son, Thomas (Crystal) Logsdon of Owensboro; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Knight of Texas; and sisters, Gladys Morris of Habit, Pauline Fontain of Ft.
