Obituary: Dorothy Elizabeth Alfred Cole was born to Rud and Ellen Alfred on 21, 1927 in Wallins Creek, KY. She was the youngest of eight children, four sisters and three brothers. She graduated from Wallins Creek H.S. and then came to Louisville to attend Sullivan Business . that she returned to Wallins to marry her high school sweetheart, Junior Cole. Unfortunately, their marriage ended 10 years later. She then again moved to Louisville, where she was employed as a waitress at the Blue Boar Cafeteria before getting a job as a bookkeeper at Stewart's Dry Goods. While at Stewart's she was able to locate an apartment in Trinity Towers, which was a short walk from work. That was a good thing, since Dorothy never owned a car or drove while in Louisville. She worked there as a valued and honored employee for many years before retiring. retirement she moved to Chapel House and worked at their front desk for many years. Dorothy faced many challenges in her life, but persevered with faith in God and help from her family and friends. Many years ago she joined and remained a faithful member of Walnut Street Baptist Church. The word "particular" fails to adequately describe Dorothy. She sought perfection in all her endeavors. She was always fastidiously dressed, sharp minded and at the ready with a quick come-back. Forgenia, who knew Dorothy at Chapel House, as well as the Episcopal Church , described her as "Always having her hair just so-so, dressed in crisp clothes, hurrying through the halls with a smile, talking about what a gorgeous day it was." Dorothy loved nature; in spring she loved seeing dogwood trees and jonquils in bloom, in summer the warm weather, and in the fall she loved seeing the leaves change color. During the winter she loved Christmas - the carols, the trees and decorations. In all seasons she was enthralled with blue skies and white clouds. At the Episcopal Church she very much enjoyed looking out the window at the blue skies and the beautifully blooming magnolia bush. Even though Dorothy knew how to push people's buttons, her comments were usually well received. She remained spunky, determined, child-like and lovable to those who knew her well. Dorothy passed into eternal life on 7, 2015 at the Episcopal Church with her loving nephew and niece at her side. She is survived by her beloved sister, Lois Thompson of Baltimore, MD, many nieces, nephews and friends. As requested by Dorothy, her services were private, with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park, Louisville, KY guided by Arch L. Heady at Resthaven. | ||||||||||
