Obituary: John A. Coker, 77, of Peoria, passed away at 11:44 am on , 29, 2011 at Methodist Medical in Peoria. He was born 11, 1934 in Springfield, IL to John A. and Florence M. (Descarpentries) Coker. He married Lorna A. Kettner on 27, 1953 at North Limestone Presbyterian Church in Peoria . He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Lorna of Peoria; two children, John C. Coker Ph.D. of Mobile, AL. and Cheryl L. (Dario) Duany Jr. of Parkland, Fl. Also surviving are two grandsons, Ross and Ryan Hurley and two step-granddaughters, Alyssa and Jennifer Duany all of Parkland, FL; two sisters, Ruth Negley of Pekin and Mary Jane Coker of Toronto, Canada; one brother, David (Mary) Coker of East Peoria and seven nieces and nephews. John was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 979. He was a member of Steamfitters Local 353 since 1962 and retired in 1993. He was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria. Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held on , 12, 2011 at 10:30 am, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria. The Rev. Mark Nelson will officiate. Burial of the urn will follow the service at Parkview in Peoria. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria or to a Charity of the Donors Choice. Obituary: Wanda, nee Cathcart, Coke, 94, of Marissa, IL; born 13, 1920 in Clarmin, IL; passed away on , 5, 2014 at the New Athens for the Aged in New Athens, IL. Mrs. Coke was an excellent cook and baker and worked at many local restaurants as well as the Marissa Elementary School. She was also a talented carpenter who remodeled several homes and two churches. Wanda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarmin where she taught school, bible study and childrens choir. She enjoyed singing and belonged to the RSVP singing group at SWIC. Wanda loved to bowl and belong to several leagues over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents – Aaron and Pearl, nee Ramsey, Cathcart. Her husband – Theodore Coke whom she married on 14, 1938 in Marissa, IL and who passed away on 25, 1987. One daughter – Charlotte Coke-McGuire. Nine brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children – Paulette (Randolph) Shubert of Marissa, IL; Steven (Shirley) Coke of Marissa, IL. Eleven grandchildren. Seventeen great-grandchildren. Seventeen great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters – Opal Coke; Bonnie Cardwell. One brother – Johnnie Cathcart. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Clarmin.
