Obituary: Ms. Petronella "Petty" Cecilia Culivan, age 86 ½, died peacefully at home on 6, 2011 with her family at her side. She was a native of Mobile, AL, former resident of Cullman, AL and Gadsden, AL and resident of Mobile, AL for the past 23 years. Ms. Culivan graduated from Murphy High School in 1942 as part of the "Class That Went to War" and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Mount Saint Scholastica in Atchinson, KS in 1946. several years of internship at various labs in Alabama, she joined the staff of the Mobile Infirmary in 1951 where she worked for 12 years. serving a number of years as head of the blood bank, she left the Mobile Infirmary to pursue a Masters Degree in vertebrate zoology at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She received the graduated degree in 1963. Following graduation, she began teaching at Saint Bernard in Cullman, AL in 1966. twelve years at that institution she moved to Gadsden, AL and began teaching Medical Technology at Gadsden State Community in 1978. She retired in 1987 and returned to Mobile to care for her mother. Over the years since returning to Mobile, Ms. Culivan has been very active in her retirement. She has participated in numerous activities at St. Pius X Catholic Church, including Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and Serra Club. She was a Master Gardener, a member of the Gulf Coast Herb Society, and the Century Book Club. She also served as a docent at Oakleigh and as a Patient Representative Volunteer at Providence Hospital until 2010. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vivian Joseph and Petronella Cecilia Vink Culivan, her sister-in-law Joyce Schultz Culivan, nephews-in-law Daniel Joseph Freeman and Fred Sostrom and a great-nephew Stephen Alexander Culivan. She is survived by her brother Vivian Joseph Culivan, Jr., Baton Rouge, LA, and her sister Mrs. John M. (Jeanne) Shackleford, Mobile, AL. She is also survived by four nieces Mrs. Randall (Carol) Pampell of Baton Rouge, LA, Jeanne Shackleford Freeman, Mobile, AL, Mrs. Frederick (Cynthia) Sostrom, Sheridan, Wyoming, and Mrs. Thomas H. (Petty) Schnormeier, Enterprise, AL and three nephews, Mr. Michael J. (Candice) Culivan, St. Louis, MO, Mr. John C. (Bridgette) Culivan, Baton Rouge, LA and Mr. Stephen P. Culivan (Jane), Baton Rouge, LA, thirteen great-nieces and nephews, five great-great-nieces and nephews and her college roommate and best friend Ms. Ernestine Jackson, Tuscaloosa, AL. Visitation will be from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. on , 8, 2011 at Radney , Dauphin Street, with the Rosary at 6:30 P.M. Obituary: Thomas Benjamin Culbreth passed away , May 4, 2016 peacefully at his home. He was 78. services will be held 3:00 p.m. , May 14, 2016 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3894 Ebenezer Rd., Columbia, AL with Reverend Don Tew, Reverend James Culbreth, and Reverend Duncan Mischler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. prior to service time at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308. Mr. Culbreth was born 10, 1937 in Columbia, Alabama. He graduated from Houston High School and Auburn University with a B.S. in Business Administration/Accounting. college, Mr. Culbreth began his career in 1959 with Independent Life Insurance in Jacksonville, FL as a Systems Programmer. In 1969, he was promoted to Assistant Vice President and in 1971, Assistant Director of Data Processing/Systems. In 1980, he became the Vice President/Director of Information Systems with Independent Fire Insurance . He left the active work environment in 1993 due to disabilities and later retired in 2002. Mr. Culbreth was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL for 50 years and was a current member of Bradfordville First Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. He was president of the Data Processing Management Association and a member of Civitan, both of Jacksonville. He was known as an avid fan of Auburn University football. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Edward M. and Ollie Mae Webb Culbreth; brothers, Edward M. Culbreth, Jr., Bunyon W. Culbreth, John French Culbreth, and James Olaff Culbreth; and sisters, Frances Culbreth Odom and Betty Louise Culbreth. Obituary: Beloved father, husband, and friend, John Perry Culbert was born on 22nd, 1959 where he resided with his mother Margaret Anne Culbert and father Walter O’Neal Culbert in Tuscaloosa Alabama. John graduated from Northside High School with the class of 1978. With the love of football, John acquired many life-long friendships that still exists today. At the young age of eighteen John started up in the world of business where he became known for his joy of making food. Culbert’s Groceries, Foxfire, and Tin Top BBQ are just a few of the places John owned in his lifetime. He had a love for making BBQ and a joy of bringing happiness to his loved ones in the form of food. John retired as the famous small town BBQ Chef in Calera, AL where he held his small business of Tin Top BBQ with his wife Tracy Culbert. John is survived by his Mother Peggy Culbert, Aunt Myrna Woods, Uncle Jimmy Woods (Joanne Woods) wife Tracy Culbert, Children; Lindsey Dawn Culbert, Shelby Paige Culbert, Alannah Bree Culbert, Alex Lee Culbert and Ronny Lee Hollingsworth, Step Brothers; Kenneth Jacobs and Larry Jacobs, Step Mother Linda Lucas along with husband John Lucas, Niece, Shasta Jones and Great Nephew Jayden Jones. John was blessed with two grandchildren Mckynlee Brooke Hollingsworth and Roman Lane Glass. He passed away on 4, 2015 surrounded by his loved ones where he ended his two year battle with cancer. John is preceded in death by his father and sister, Walter O’Neal Culbert and Sherri Culbert. Visitation will be held at Rockco in Montevallo, AL on , 6, 2015 from 6-8pm. Graveside service will be held on , 7, 2015 at Williamson in Northport, AL at 2:00 pm, everyone is welcome to attend. He will be led out by his pallbearers Danny Cundiff, Sherman Lollar, Mitch Freeman, Jobie Polifka, Taco, and Randy Milligan. I, Alannah Culbert, would like to personally thank all of the wonderful friends and family for the prayers, love, and support! I can speak on behalf of my family by saying how blessed we are to be loved by so many. Again thank you to all of our friends and family for bringing comfort into our home at the time we needed it most! My father was such a blessed man to have so many who loved him. I know my father is with me and will be each and every day. His love shines through his friends, and for that I am grateful! Special thank you to the angels God sent to take care of my father, the hospice nurses, Aunt Christy along with husband Travis Bush and kids, and a host of friends too many to list.
